Nope. Holtby and Hakanpää are very useful to our system. Barrie wouldn't fit there at all. He's a full offensive D-man who needs elite talent to play with in order to produce. He's not getting that in Dallas. I'd stay away from him if I were Dallas GM.

Don't think it's good for Dallas, they just signed Hakanpaa this year and I think they like him. Barrie isn't worth his money to most teams. Holtby alone would get a third or second. I also doubt they sell anything this deadline, too close to the playoffs with a pretty decent team.

If I am Dallas, I don't do Hakanpaa for Barrie 1 for 1.

dallas doesn't do it. Holtby is having a good yr (will cost more cause of it) and haak is a solid defensive guy. I think a team that would want barrie at his full contract will be teams needing offence from the backend and a PP quarterback. those are the teams the Oilers should target (like a Seattle). The most important part of any barrie trade wont be the return it will be free'd up cap since that will be crucial to sign bouch and Jesse this offseason to long-term deals. Ideally the oilers get a shutdown 3rd pair guy that has 1YL (or with term if cheap) and recovering draft capital (to trade later) in a Barrie deal.

Think the ideal situation is to trade one of the most productive d over the past ten years signed for under 5 million and just get a bottom pairing pylon??

IMO, Barrie is not a good TDL acquisition for the Stars. Once Klingberg leaves, I don't think its unreasonable to suggest as much as a 2nd round draft pick and a lesser contract headed back to Edmonton in exchange for him.

I would be very happy if the Oilers could somehow convince the Stars to send them Holtby, but given where the teams stand right now I doubt that will happen.

I think priority 1 for the oiler outside of finding a LT goalie is re-resigning bouch. He is playing like a 7mil+ OFD at sub 1mil. If oilers wait to sign him he will cost a fortune and eat the rest of their cap space
