This Team Looks Nice

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2022
Published: Feb. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team would be super dangerous this year and next.

Vancouver get our 3 best prospects. We get their best player retained for this year and next. Milelr could play top line wing or 3C. Would be a good insurance at centre if Matthews or Tavares get injured.

There really isnt any defender rumored to be on the market that would be worth it cost wise, klingberg will cost too much and looks to be declining himself, chychrun will cost too much and he plays the wrong side. Manson is just a slightly better chariot (and ntc).
The best bet is probably demelo if Winnipeg is out of it

Do you view Demelo as an upgrade over Holl? He is signed at 3m for several more years. Would be hard to make that work (doable) but would it be worth trying to make it work for a good 5-6 dman making 3m a year?

Ya he is not bad. He is playing number one minutes on MTL, so he is getting exposed. And their team is awful this year. Put him down to 19-20 minutes a game on the 2nd or 3rd pair, and he is much better suited.

The Leafs already have a perfectly capable top pairing in Rielly and Brodie. They are lights out. So they just need to boolster their bottom 3 D. This does that.

He isn't just getting exposed, he's getting completely obliterated on a nightly basis. Utterly destroyed. Putting a guy who clearly can't stop anyone from scoring on the 2nd pair shutdown unit makes no sense. On top of all that, he's slow, very slow and can't handle the puck. So now you put our slowest defenceman with an even slower player who also can't handle the puck. Not sure how anyone thinks getting guys who have been wrecked at 5v5 on bad teams are somehow going to be better than guys who literally have helped the Leafs become the 6th best team defensively and a top 5 team overall.

What does Holl, Dermott and Liljegren need to do to get respect from their own fans? Chiarot gets respect and he's been horrible for a long time but got carried by Weber and bailed out by Price. Manson? Significantly worse advanced stats than Holl. There are 2 guys available that are actually upgrades for TO. Klingberg and Severson. But Severson had 2 bad games in the past 3 years and it happened to be against the Leafs so now he's crap apparently and Klingberg is in a system that nullifies all his strengths and so people think he sucks as well because cement footed idiots who hit is what we need apparently.

Severson or Klingberg and if not then, grab Braun to battle for the last spot in the lineup. He may not earn it, but if we have one more defenceman, we can be happy to know Biega or Dahlstrom won't ever play for the leafs again.

Demelo is a guy id basically tandem with holl depending on situation, current play and chemistry, hea a solid defensive guy who can anchor sandin, or he can pk with muzzin. As far as the cap, well im not too worried about 3 mill

Oh shoot that was supposed to be Topi niemela and not Hirvonen in the trade. He is the leafs top d prospect. Let me fix that.

That makes a lot more sense. Is Nick Ritchie just a cap dump?

Chariot is so bad he immediately nullifies how good miller is.

He can play and would play for Van. He is a healthy scratch on the Leafs right now but they are super deep.

So he has negative value but it isn't insane since his contract is only 2.5m for next year. He could easily play to that level. But he is a negative value asset. (call it a 3rd round pick or B level prospect or so)
