Flames decline. I don't see them trading Monahan with retention. Kapenen is going to cost more with Monahan's retention in this scenario than Monahan on the team most likely. We need as much cap space as possible for next year

What would your thoughts be on a Jason Zucker for Monahan trade, neither has great numbers and both could use a fresh start.

Are the Pens a better team with these trades? Yes.

Will the other teams make these trades? No.

Flames would be dumb to decline. Kapanen isn’t amazing but a hell of a lot better than Monahan has been the last 2 years, and even with all that retained salary the contracts end up more or less equal

The point of trading Monahan is to free up cap space for next year

Exchanging Kapanen for Monahan saves the pens only like 0.2 mil, not worth the large gap in value for little cap space

Im talking from the Flames perspective. You said they would be dumb to decline but they would decline because if they r trading Monahan it would be to open up cap space. In this deal flames still end up with basically $7mil on the books which aint ideal for who they gotta sign this summer.
