PHI says no. Brink is on fire and after Philly's bad deal for UFA RD Ristolinen, no way do they repeat it for Dumba. (Trading futures and paying market value for an expiring UFA RD)

Also, those two from VGS are two of their best contracts, I doubt they move them for poor return.

Philly has been kicking the tires on Dumba and the coach and GM loved him when they were both in MN

In terms of the VGK deal, they dont have much of an option with 8 players on NM/NTC, they are probably their best contracts but its either get rid of them or dont play with Eichel and Martinez.

Your roster is 22-23, VGS has to move Dandanov and smith is a UFA, their cap issues are in 21-22 and trading their best two contracts doesn;t extend into 22-23 to the point that they take offers well below market value.

As far as Dumba, you're right, but that was before Fletcher acquired Ellis (6 more years) and Risto (a RD and UFA). If Risto moves on as a UFA, Fletcher wont move brink and 3 good picks for another top 4 dman who is an expiring UFA. If Dumba wasn;t a UFA, and had an extension of like 4 yrs for 5.75, maybe.

But then do you not resign Roy, Kolesar or Howden just to name a couple? They have 5 ELCS on their roster if I remember correctly that either expire next year (those 3 for sure) or the year after.

I wouldn't want to if I was them either, but what choice is there? 8 players on NM/NTC and 5 on soon to be expiring ELCs.

Theyll trade smith and dandanov this year, which keeps them under cap. In the off season, theyll move somebody to afford their ELC re-signs, probably Karlsson or get one of the other NTC/NMC to waive, but they will not move their best 2 contracts for UNDER MARKET VALUE.

They are over a barrel right now with Eichel coming back and will get little in return for smith, dandanov, janmark, but they have been nothing but inventive, and in the off season they'll find a way to move a big NMC/NTC. I mean if it wasn;t for the emergence of small contracts in Hague, Whitecloud, Kolesar they'd be in last place with their team structure.

But don;t mistake cap struggles within the 21-22 season with selling quality cheaply in the offseason or the 22-23 season.

(I never said they wouldn;'t move stepohenson or mcnabb, they just wont do it for pennies on the dollar in the off season)

Seems unlikely that Vegas would extend McNabb 8 days ago, and then turn around and trade him, no?

I also think that teams would pay closer to market value, but they are over a barrel right now in terms of getting under the cap

Gives the team hes traded to surety that he isn't a rental, and on a friendly-ish deal looks like his MV is around $3M, so a little haircut on that, but I would think that was not their thought process during the extension

I'd be curious to know when the last time a "sign and trade" was done in the NHL. Only time I can recall was Marian Hossa in Ottawa.

You're not getting Stephenson and McNabb *just* re-upped. Besides, be careful how much you help Vegas. they're in the same conference, after all.

I could see Philly making another push for Dumba in the offseason, but you're right that I don't see them trading Brink. Dude quietly became our best prospect by a sizable gap this season
