I could see the Dumba and Addison deals, but Boldy is gonna start with a 4 if there is ANY term on it. Ideally you get him for super long term.

I think they will have to do a bridge deal for him. No matter what you somewhat have to for him and Rossi, no?

Rossi's ELC will likely be slid this year, so the last year of it will directly coincide with the last year of the $14M in deadcap. He's not going to need to be bridged. Just Boldy and Addison.

Boldy will likely command $4-6M on a 2-3 year bridge deal. He's already valued at roughly $8M on the market.

I’m not so sure. You also have to think about how to ice a competitive team once the buyout pain ends. I’ve always kind of thought the window opens at the end of the buyouts rather than during.

In my eyes, it makes more sense to prioritize long term deals for Boldy and Rossi. That means you lock them up long term earlier and also means you can’t tie up cap, which unfortunately means Fiala.

Small sample size aside, I want him on a Suzuki contract right off his ELC.

We can't afford him at $7.8M right off his ELC like Suzuki got. My bet is we bridge him at roughly $5M for 3 years, with the promise of a payday after that.

So then the question becomes, do you look at zucarello as dispensable? Not saying he is or isn't and obviously dont want to break up him and Kaprizov, but where do you value him vs Fiala long term?

I get that, but it’s also something to think about. It likely means no Dumba or Fiala but I think you need to see if it’s an option. Maybe you give him one year and lock him up once Zucc is off the books. But I don’t want a mid price bridge.

They'd need to let Fiala go to do that and I'm not sure that's a good idea unless you get some nearly ready to go prospect back for Fiala.

As for the above, Kahkonen almost certainly gets more than that if he's setup to be the starter. You have a bit of cap space, but you'll want at least 1 healthy scratch so that's gone there.

I think you absolutely could get a near ready prospect for Fiala. Kupari or Turcotte from LAK spring to mind.

Why does Addison get that much on a bridge deal? He's done nothing at the NHL level to deserve it. I'm thinking he'll be trade bait in the next year or two. He's Spurgeon's replacement and Spurgeon isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I don't see Dumba taking pay cut top stay. He'll get a lot more on the open market as a UFA. Hometown discount is one thing, sure, but that's robbery.

If Fiala would have taken a $6m/yr deal he would have been signed longterm last offseason. He's been a 65p/yr player with trash for linemates. Now that he has 1 quality linemate he'll be close to a ppg player. Give him 2 quality linemates and think what he could be.

Well Dumbas current market value is 5.1 so take that 400k and put it towards Fiala plus whatever is in the leftover cap space.

This is why bridging Boldy is the better option. Despite his age, Zuccarello should be movable given his production with Kaprizov, and the fact he only has a 10-team NTC the last two years of his current contract and not a NMC. Bottom line, despite his chemistry with Kaprizov, Zuccarello should be moved next year at the deadline or in the 22-23 offseason.

It's really not Boldy we should be trying to lock up long-term. It's Rossi. Even with his ELC ending with the Buyouts, we want to get him as cheap as possible. Boldy on a bridge deal will give us that flexibility to do so. Boldy will cost on a 2nd contract, but we'll be able to afford it.

I think that is close for what Kahk gets for a contract. Saros $1.5m x 3 deal is what I'm looking at as a comparable.

Not if one of Dumba, Zuccarello or Talbot is let go/traded/moved on from. There are options that allow Fiala to stay long-term.

I think that’s right. We can go back and forth about who’s more important but end of the day both Boldy and Rossi need to be locked up until they’re 30 as soon as is feasible.

And I would think that he could get a pretty penny if going to a team that has a good winger opposite him, no? Obviously teams can see that Kaprizov is part of the reason for his resurgence, so they aren't just going to get him for the sake of getting a good player, it has to be to pair with another star type player

Those numbers don't work well for top pair UFA RD. Myers got $6m/yr, Spurgeon got his albotros deal, etc.

Contenders looking for a veteran top-six winger should definitely have an interest in Zuccarello. They'll likely have a player Zucc can work with already if they're legitimate Contenders.

So maybe slide someone who fires the puck first and asks questions second, like Beckman into that spot?

Eventually, if Beckman isn't dealt at the deadline this year.

Who would we be dealing him for though? Theres a very short list that I would think, JT Miller, Stephenson, who else?

1, He doesn't play with Kaprivov.
2. the 19-20 season where he was on a 70p pace with mediocre (better than trash at least) linemates.
3. He was a 20g scorer in NSH (as a 21 yo) before he joined MN.
3. look what his linemates from the previous season did the next season without him. Koivu (retired), Parise (earned a buyout), MarJo (on a cheap 1 yr deal shlubbing in SEA).

He has the track record, skills, and stats to back up a much higher contract. Especially if he hits the open market as a 27yo.
