Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Published: Feb. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These are deadline or close to deadline trades and Holloway will hopfully come around the end of March or early April depending on how he plays in the minors. With the constant injuries they have with goalies, having 3 to run is good for the team. Holtby should be taking most games though.
Trades
1.
EDM
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (VGK)
BUF
  1. Barrie, Tyson
Additional Details:
Barrie doesn't fit on this team and Buffalo needs RHD. They're trying to trend upwards and Barrie can help as a puck mover on the back end. Hopefully he can succeed in a new enviornment.
2.
NYI
  1. Samorukov, Dmitri
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Oilers really need a sound defensive guy on the back end. Mayfield has good playoff experience and is on a cheap contract for another year after this too. The asking price might be a bit but it will be worth it for a desperate oilers team. I assume the isles want guys who are close to NHL ready so getting Samorukov (played in the KHL last year) who is probably going to make the jump to the show next year will be good for them and fill out a thin LD. They also get a 2nd and 3rd to help fill out their missing draft picks.
3.
EDM
  1. Holtby, Braden ($650,000 retained)
DAL
  1. Mazura, Tomas [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Holtby should be the clear choice for the team as he has the playoff experience and knows what it takes to carry a team all the way through. He might not what be used to be, but he's been great this year. And even though Dallas does play that shutdown type of defense (sometimes), his advanced stats have been average which is better than what the oilers have been getting all year.
4.
NJD
  1. Benson, Tyler
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
I'm not sure how much NJ wants to keep Siegenthaler, but I assume with the right offer they can part ways with him. Going into the future, he'll probably be their 3LD which is easily replacable. Even though he's probably been one of their better dmen this season, theres no space with the talent they have in Hamilton, Graves, Severson, and Smith. Those guys are a really solid top 4 for years to come (despite Smith playing poor this year I assume he picks it up next year and continues to improve).

Siegenthaler would be staying if that’s the offer
He’s worth more
Plus Devils would want to keep him for the future. They would part ways with Graves before they would sign Siegenthaler

I don't watch many devils games but is Siegenthaler outperforming Graves? and if Graves was on the market what would his asking price be?

Not him but, Graves has been great, Siegenthaler fantastic, so yeah I guess outperforming Graves in a sense.
So devils paid a 2nd a B prospect to acquire Graves so EDM would have to improve on that by some margin.

Barrie doesn't need Buffalo, he's not the type D we're looking.

Siegenthaler has been better than Graves on most nights. Siegs currently leads NHL in defensive Goals-above-Replacement and his partner, Severson, is #5. They have developed into our top-pair (and would likely remain so even if Hamilton were healthy). And usually lead team in TOI.

Smith has had up-and-down sophomore season, so has been third pair. Graves could potentially be move at deadline if Smith gets a little more consistent and/or they view Bahl or Okhotiuk as ready for call-up.

But it’s doubtful we move any d-man. Maybe Subban.

That might be right, but Buffalo needs RD. If not Buffalo there are teams out there that want him. Trading a pick in the late 50's to early 60 range shouldn't be a problem for teams as they still get and NHL dman back.

But going forward in the future, the team wouldn't have the space for all of these guys, and it's clear that NJ won't make the playoffs this year. But the sense I'm getting from NJ fans is that Graves would go before Siegenthaler. And for relatively the same package as what you guys gave up for him right? I assume NJ would have to trade one of their LD as Smith will definitely be improving for majority of his career. I know Siegenthaler is a hidden gem in this league which is why I made a mock trade for him but I still like graves as well. If a 2nd and Lavoie would do the trick I would think it's a fair deal.

Which Mayfield?
If it's Scott Mayfield you thinking of I don't recall him ever getting traded.

Np.
And I'd be very disappointed if that was the return Devils got for Graves.

Siegnethaler - not happening
Graves - wait a year

Devils gotta wait until some the kids show up before we move anyone.

Graves has been better offensive but Siegenthaler better defensively. Graves got traded for a 2nd + prospect. If the Devils trade him, it would be for a 1st+ or young player that fits the Devils timeline

Then I’d suggest sending him elsewhere. Barrie is everything we don’t need in a defenseman. We already have a PP QB for both PP1 and PP2

Buffalo is looking for RHD, but they are looking for more Defensive Defenseman, therefore I don't see Barrie being a fit here either.
