RWD Need

Created by: Orts41
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Published: Feb. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It’s no secret the Rangers need a top 6 RW and a dman. Everyone has connected Smith from Vegas to the Rangers, but I think he’s staying. The KHL season ends in a month and perhaps the Rangers and Kravtsov make up. Also with Kakkos status up in the air, who knows when he’ll get back
I think these pick ups make more sense then to giving up their higher end talent and give a bit more balance to the team, which it desperately needs. Granted, Hinostroza isn’t a top 6, but I like his game and he’ll come cheap. Once Kakko does come back, I feel it gives them better options too

Remove the retention, NYR have 30M to spend and if that’s the difference between winning and losing the Gio sweepstakes then it’s nothing

Love the Seattle deal. Think we can better for more RW depth than the Buffalo deal. But proposal still is solid.

Thanks for the comments. I actually did another one where I traded for Namestnikov. I think I like that pick up better, but I figured trying something different

We have 37M for TDL but 4M of that should be open for the 1.2Mish in bonuses that will be paid out. Essentially Giroux, Pavelski, Kessel and Chiarot could be added with no retention at all. Not that we want all those pieces but it’s insane to think about the idea of adding that much salary

Trades seem realistic but this doesn’t make the rangers cup contenders

True, but the question is then, do you think they’re in a position to make big splash deals and potentially mortgage some of the prospects/draft picks to make a big run for the cup? Are they actually there yet?

I honestly don’t, they’ve had a great year and exceeded everyone’s expectations, but I think everyone needs to be honest with themselves instead of wanting to make the big deal when they’re not in a position to just yet. What I’m saying is it’s great to make trades, but not moves that are going to hurt the team in the future, especially when they need more experience in the playoffs and grow as a group

When the Rangers self-assess and look at their team before the deadline, they realize that they have a Vezina favorite/Hart candidate goalie, norris candidate defenseman and a player tied for league leading goal scorer. It would be a disservice to the team not to sacrifice some assets and go all in. However, it is possible that the Rangers could do this by adding pieces that are effective, yet allow them to make trades keeping some prized prospects. I have actually made two Mock GM scenarios myself recently on how I think the Rangers will accomplish this, look at them on my profile and tell me what you think.
