Rebuild Mostly from within

Created by: Garak
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 13, 2022
Published: Feb. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Kane takes a significant discount
-Toews retires
-Kubalik is traded for a true RW with top 6 potential
-Tyler Johnson comes back on fire after surgery.
-Reichel makes the leap to the NHL (possibly even surpassing Strome and Dach. But for this purpose I put him at 3C)
-Dach learns to juggle and improves at the dot (but could also be paired with a winger that can take draws for him because Dach is a natural center who just blows at the dot)
-Galvas solidifies a role as a top 4 LD
-Beaudin gets an extended look in the NHL
-Mitchell gets an extended look in the NHL
-Del Mastro transitions to the AHL and looks to be in line for a top pairing LD role if Beaudin doesn't work out or he simply outplays them. (possibly even jumping into the NHL sooner rather than later)
-CHI signs Kuzmenko (who could possibly pass up Hagel)
-Cat signs for $9 x 8
-Soderblom is ready for the NHL full time, and we don't resign Lankinen.
-Fleury refuses a TDL trade and says he doesn't want to move again and would rather finish his career in CHI (if he doesn't retire after this season, if he does, CHI signs another veteran goaltender to a short term contract allowing them to further evaluate Soderblom and Commesso).
-Commesso leaves college early to further his development in the AHL (possibly making the leap to the NHL sooner than later if he earns it which could line up just right with a short term Veteran contract)
-Luypen cracks the NHL roster quickly.
-Slavin, Kalynuk, Caleb Jones, and Borgstrom (and maybe Barratt) are traded for stuff and things. Calm down... Bokk is just a place holder.

Long term the hawks lack a true 1C and 1LD. Definetly the top concerns moving forward into this rebuild

Agreed. Was just doing this as if they were to go for a longer term rebuild. In which case, they might take more time to see what they have before grabbing any players from free agency. I have a feeling Galvas and/or Del Mastro are going to be some long term solutions at LD. Will they be top pairing LD's though? Idk. Only time will tell. Also, Wise, Colton Dach, Luypen, and Sarrela have some potential at center too, we just have to see how they progress.

i think del mastro has the ability to play 1LD at his ceiling hes a big defensemen with good puck moving skills and is excellent at shutting down guys one on one, i think galvas could be a solid second pairing we have a lot of defensive prospects just need one to pan out.

I feel like I've heard some type of reach like that about every D prospect the hawks have had the past 5 seasons. "Beaudin can QB the power play" "Boqvist is the top pair RD the hawks have been looking for" "Vlasic is a big physical body that plays older than he is" and all these guys always end up somewhere else or being busts. Hell, look at Forsling, Clendening and Jokiharju. Don't hold your breath when it comes to this team's D prospects.

Unfortunately this is true when you look at history, D currently is our most stocked prospect pool so fingers crossed we can buck the trend and one of these guys can actually make the grade somewhere in the lineup.

For sure. But there is potential in the pipeline and that is all anyone can hope for.

Also, a lot of CHI's dmen that didn't pan out were rushed by a front office (Bowman) with zero attention span that thought we could contend for a cup every year. And then he would trade them way too early at the smallest sign of adversity.
