Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2022
Published: Feb. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni
  2. Whitecloud, Zach
Additional Details:
Whitecloud is owed 2.75M after this season for the next 6 years. While I think that's a good contract, Vegas has to find a way to shed cap and with Theodore-Petro-McNabb-Martinez under contract for awhile, he's expendable. Whether they wait to bring Stone off of LTIR until the playoffs or not, they'll have to shed Dadonov's 5M as well, and that might be tricky. So, they package the two together and trade them to Toronto.
VGK
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Leafs are tasked with flipping Dadonov, but get a great, big young defender to be a part of their D core for the next 6 years. Because they take on Dadonov, they get him for pennies on the dollar.
2.
TOR
  1. 2022 4th round pick (WPG)
NYR
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni ($1,300,000 retained)
Additional Details:
This is the amount that we pay to have Ritchie in the minors. There might be takers at 5M, but assuming there aren't because this is a steep price, they would do this.
3.
TOR
not to ANA but to whoever will take him
    ANA
    1. Ritchie, Nick
    2. 2024 3rd round pick (TOR)
    4.
    TOR
    1. Schenn, Luke ($300,000 retained)
    VAN
    1. 2022 4th round pick (WPG)
    2. 2023 6th round pick (TOR)
    Additional Details:
6th goes to 3rd party team for retaining

Don't read into the price I paid for Whitecloud/Dadonov too much - this i was unsure of and wanted thoughts on.

Lol we’re not trading Whitecloud, an under 25 RHD that’s locked up UNDER 3 million for the next 6 years….

Trade a pick with Dadanov elsewhere, we’re not gonna add great assets as a sweetener, come on. 🙄

    Why would Vegas trade Whitecloud?

Why wouldn’t Vegas just trade dadonov for a 4th? Why would they give up white cloud to get rid of him?

Just because Las Vegas has four primary defensemen (at least two of whom are "veteran" enough to represent an injury risk) doesn't mean that they'd be willing to trade a young guy on a long-term team-friendly contract. Guys like Whitecloud and Coghlan and Hague are valuable to the Golden Knights out of all proportion to their cap hit precisely because they're cheap.

Note that Dadonov also has a ten-team no-trade clause in his contract.

So you think that Vegas has cap issues next season.? How about the Leafs when Whitecloud and Reilly get their already signed increases of 5m. Then RFA Liljegren, Sandin, Kase, and Engvall to sign. Plus the UFAs or their replacements.

well i guess the rationale was that you'd have to retain which they can't really do

Only the leafs have to add a 1st to unload one year of Ritche @2.5m lol I love how Leafs are the only trade on this site that need to anti up a 1st to unload dead weight or not paying enough for other teams bad situations.

See this is the thing, Ritche is dead weight, Dadanov, while not worth the 5 million that Ottawa threw at him is still a very useable player and can be a top 6 winger on a dozen teams lol. Watch his numbers sky rocket playing with Patches and Eichel lol.

the point is were not adding Whitecloud as a sweetner. zero chance
