Why do you guys keep trading for Marino? I seriously don't get it. We are way worse with out him.

How exactly are we replacing him?

If there was an easy replacement for Marino, they wouldn't need to trade for him.

With Poolman and capspace. Pittsburgh has almost always been a defense by committee type team. This move would open up about 7million in capspace for Pittsburgh while adding a young NHL forward and a serviceable dman. Allows them to sign rust, Letang, Malkin, and probably make a play on another good player whether that be d or forward

What would you think of Myers for Johnsson? That was my original thought but with the Zacha rumours I figured I'd try to mix that in somehow.

If it were that easy to solve the dman problem, you wouldn't need to trade for Marino. The Pens have one of the top defenses in the league and he's a big reason why.

Marino is a good player, don't get me wrong here, but the additional 7mil I'm capspace allows Pittsburgh the space to re-sign all their big names plus make a play on a dman in free agency. I know it's not that easy to solve defence but Pittsburgh is still a desirable place to play as long as Crosby is there. Say they add hoglander and poolman, then make a play in free agency for one of Klingberg, Subban, Manson, Lindholm, De Hann, Schultz are they really much worse off than having Marino?

Pens will have to make some tough decisions regardless, but it would be more likely Pettersson gets moved from our back-end.

Nope. If they're not moving Schneider, Laf, or Kakko then they have to give up extra to get him. If they or someone else doesn't meet that price then I'd rather see the Canucks hold Miller into the summer asses the landscape when there are more suitable options available even if the overall value is slightly less.

I’d like to defer you to my recent ACGM.

If you want to hold onto Miller that’s fine. But you’re not getting two 1sts and two 2nds for a 1.5 year rental.

For Johnsson maybe. That is a hefty contract to take on but it fills a need at RHD.

I'd say Pens accept if it's an offseason trade.

I think that's what NYR has already offered and Van has declined. That's why I think they need to add Chytil to get it done.

Myers contract isn't too bad anymore. It's still less than ideal but 2yrs isn't going to be a back breaker for NJD. I'd do Myers for Johnsson 1 for 1.

Makes sense. I like the value then even though ideally I'd love to keep Marino
