Wasn't there some report that a part of Petry's level dropping is due to personal issues due to his family living the US instead of Canada? Because if that's the case I don't think he'd waive his NMC to go even further from his family and still in Canada...he wants to move to US.

This is a lateral and down move, lateral in the sense Petry would be a better defensive player than Barrie, and Allen slightly better than Koskinen, but more cap and term with each player that it would be a downward move for the Oilers... They don't need another backup goalie, or right shot D Man, they Need a solid non injury prone Goalie, and possibly a 3rd pairing LHD, and if cap permitting maybe a middle 6 f that can do a little scoring while playing a mean game... So No, HARD PASS on that deal period....

I honestly have no clue. There may have been in which case the trade is DOa. Just thought it would be an interesting trade idea.

So what is Edmonton's motivation? More importantly, NTC's Petry's motivation.

Edmonton declines. Take out the first and they probably still decline. The Petry contract carries a lot of risk and they already have 2 better goalies under contract for next year so taking Allen is a negative.

1) Petry would block any trade to a canadian team
2) Montreal need Allen next season

Better defense plus offensive ability of Petry plus a decent goalie in Allen signed at a reasonable contract. Petry goes back to a playoff contending team.

Wouldn't call Mike Smith better at 41 with extensive injury history. Petry does carry risk but no worse than Barrie's

Someone mentioned Petry wants to go back to the US. I had no idea before I made this trade.

If the Oilers want to replace Smith they'll do it with a bonafide starter, not a backup.

And Petry's contract carries FAR more risk than Barrie's. Barrie is 30 and owed $9.5M over 2 years, Petry is 34 and owed $20M over 3 years. That's more than double the money and 50% more term on a guy who is 4 years older.

Petry wont waive to go back to Edmonton, He wants out of Canada due to Covid restrictions and Edmonton is even further from Detroit noway he'd waive to go that far from home. Reports are he wants the States only he wants to return back to the U. S.
