omg, you should learn what a 2 way defense man is. You really should. Because that is what brodie is.
There are huge drops in the numbers.
They aren't related to PP minutes.
If anything, he's got more talent around him now on his 1st line than he's had at any point. The numbers are still down.
Why do you have a hard time getting to that?
You know why they call them defensive, because they are hopeless with the puck on their stick.
You know why they call them offensive, because they are hopeless in their own end.
You know why they call them 2 way, because they can actually play hockey.

But here is the thing. Your guy went from being a 2 way man, to his numbers tanking. But you don't want to recognize that.
No matter how you want to turn it, flip it, whatever. You don't want to talk about it. You got excuses, but you don't want to just say, yeah, he was a 40 point guy, his even strength and 5v5 production use to be a lot better. Now it isn't.
No, you just want to clutch to now, he's labeled as "defensive" and that's all you want to talk about.
It's ok, he's 31. decline happens to all. It's not the 1st time nor the last time numbers drop on a guy.
But don't come at me about how Matheson can't play in his own end, when all his numbers are screaming, 2 way guy, generating points.
Because right now, you'd kill to get 10 goals out of your guy, but your not.

dumbest thing ive ever heard

i literally just provided you with stats showing you how good defensively he is, and if hes not putting up offensive numbers but is amazing defensively what does that mean? hes a defensive defenseman, a very good one at that. matheson plays against lesser opponents and is worse in his own end.

I'd kill for him to get 10 goals? nope, would 10 goals be better than 3 goals? of course its basic math. leafs are top 5 in gf/g, they dont need him to be putting up great offensive numbers

don't talk to me about stats at this point LOL

As for the saying there, it's true. I know you don't want to admit it. It is.

is that all you got at this point?

Why can you not admit, he was a 2 way player who use to rack up points?

it is literally the only thing you have brought up when comparing the 2...

but why are we bringing up "was" you are bringing up was because it fits your narrative, right now he is a defensive defenseman, and this whole argument started by saying matheson is better and the only thing you brought up was points

why does was matter when we are talking about right now

the funny part about this is Matheson the offensive d who isnt good defensively has a career high of 27 points

I love how you ignore the pile of advanced stats.

To set the record straight. You said enjoy Matheson for the next 4 years.
At which point I showed Both Muz and TJ were producing less on the ice for higher cap hits.

But hey, good luck on that.
I think were done here and you just mad LOL

producing less points!! how does that make him better when evaluating defenseman when they play a defense first role? you have still yet to answer that in 2 days

theres no point in continuing this, you cant fx ignorance and stupid

Yup. Havent responded in quite some time

Getting egg on one's face is hard for people to come out from behind. Brodie was most certainly everything this jabroni is trying to prove out, but he's started his decline which is expected at his age. He's still a fine dman, nobody is disputing that, but Matheson THIS season is playing a far more complete game than Brodie while racking up solid offensive numbers. Will Matheson keep this up over the next few years? Who knows, but last season he played far better than he did the years before and and has taken another leap this year.
