I think that this is an accurate assessment of Chiarot's value, unlike some Habs fans' insistence that he'll bring a first and a third back. The entire question is, as you intimate, whether NY sees this as a good short-term move. (Taking the long view, Lundkvist could probably obtain some similar future value, which is what @aecliptic is hinting at.)

I understand that we could use better depth at LD, however lets not forget that the Rangers have given up the third fewest goals in the league. Lets also keep in mind that although Nemeth isnt all that wonderful in terms of skating and speed, he does have 61 hits and 71 blocked shots. The obsession to fix a superb defense playing in front of arguably the best goalie in the league boggles my mind considering how terrible we are 5v5 on the other end of the ice. I believe some moves for the forwards are better than others, but thats where our assets need to be focused to improve.

This is a stupid trade for the Rangers. Chiarot isn’t that good. He’s also hurt. Ridiculous waste of assets.

Chariot is coming back into the lineup possibly tomorrow and the rangers needs a defensemen who has playoff experience.
So i would see this trade happen even if they are some minor adjustments
