Even if the Islanders wanted to trade Mayfield, (no idea why they would considering his usage and his cap hit), they could do A LOT better than this offer.

But at the end of the day with Toronto just getting Lyubushkin, that fills the role that Mayfield woulda filled and there’s no need for him in Toronto. They’re likely looking at acquiring a bonafide top 4 guy with some term (think maybe Severson, Dumba, etc.). But they’re not looking for a defensive only option anymore.

the reality is that with another year on his deal he’s not getting moved unless it’s a david savard style overpay. the isles don’t have anyone in the system to replace him really and his deal is super cheap. if he was a pending UFA maybe they’d take this but with a year left they’re holding onto him unless they get a great offer
