Boeser Veteran 3C and Goalie

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2022
Published: Feb. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Playing around with the idea of moving Mercer full-time to RW and acquiring a veteran for 3C along with goalie.

Let me know what you think.

1. Anaheim: Henrique, Stolarz (Jersey returnee, Jersey native)

2. Calgary: Backlund, Vladar (I guess if they had trouble making space for Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane and one of their kids was ready)

3. Who else would fit?

If Wolf is ready(I doubt be would be) maybe Vladar for a 2nd? I suck at values but the way he has played, he had gained value from his 3rd round pick, but not much since he hasn't played much. IDK about Backs tho

Bo is fine as 3C in my opinion

@SevenLeg thought of an interesting trade for a goalie
      Zacha for Vanacek

This is all happening in a world where Zacha is a Canuck.
But generally, that might work. Would they be moving Vanacek or Samsonov?

Backlund is polarizing among Flames fans. But the coach and management love him. Depending on what happens with Tkachuk, he may be the next captain.

Monahan and Dube look to be the likely cap casualties at the moment.

      There's another unpopular plan

      1) Zacha for Vanacek (Blackwood Vanacek duo)
      2) Severson (extended) for Boeser (extended) (something along those lines)
      3) Draft a dman such as Jiricek or Nemec

Interesting feedback. Appreciate it. I don’t really know what to make of Monahan from afar.

It's been quite the fall from grace. Injuries have taken their toll on him. He's still able to contribute on a PP, 5 on 5 has been a struggle. To be fair to him, he was playing with Brett Ritchie for most of the season, maybe Toffoli can help him regain his form.

It's been rumoured the Flames have tried to move him the past two offseasons, no takers. The Flames will really need to lower their asking price IMO, because they need that 6.3cap hit off the books. Buyout might be the only option, because I don;t see the Flames taking back any salary or retaining.

If you read through some of the interviews and transcripts of VAN new GM, clearly creating some cap flexibility is one of their objectives. Swapping Boeser for Severson probably fills a team need, but will be about neutral on cap.

      So maybe:
      1. More prospect/pick centered deal for Boeser (maybe with Boqvist instead of PZ)
      2. Zacha for Goalie
      3. Draft Lambert or Nemec

One year left? We got $6.3 million easy. Before 2023-24 will actually be our challenging off-season as we will have extend Severson, Siegenthaler, Graves and Smith all at same time (if we keep all four). But we are good for 2022-23.

      How is Monahan’s defense?

His 200ft game isn't really a hallmark of his game, but to his credit he has improved incrementally at it every season.

For a team like your Devils, it could be a good buy-low option. It's entirely possible he just needs a change of scenery. In a new environment I wouldn't be surprised if Monahan finds his 20+ goal form again.

i dont think VAN would target Zacha in a trade for Boeser. Hes their one big trade trip to try to get young cost controlled prospects. I think both him and Kapanen fall into the same category of player that they already have too many of(serviceable middle six forwards that probably make too much money for their production)

Swap Zetterlund with Walsh and make it a guaranteed 1st round pick and the Canucks accept

The secondary idea above was subbing Boqvist for Zacha and adding a small piece. Boqvist is younger, cheaper, faster, better with puck, but smaller and less of a shot. Hard to tell what his defensive will look like.

I have said for years, and maybe other devils fans can reaffirm, Boqvist is the best buy low candidate on devils. He was miscast into a 4th line grinder by Hynes and is now stuck as 5C. Lately we have been using him at 3C (Mercer at 2RW) and he looks good.

Both painful for NJ. I’d prefer to keep Walsh and send a pick, but I think GM would do opposite (send Walsh, keep 1st)

I like the Boeser trade! I think the value is really close and could see something like this being the actual trade or close to.

I wouldn’t have any interest in Stolarz or Vladar. I don’t think they solve the goaltending issue all that much and if we are going to trade for a goalie I’d rather one of Washington’s goalies. However if we trade for a goalie then I don’t see a point in trading for one.

For 3C, I’d let Boq try it out for most of the rest of the season. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him recently so I think I’d just let him try for the 3C job before trading for an expensive 3C.

This came out confusing for me.

I am guessing you are saying, "if we trade for one goalie, I don't see the point in trading for another one"

The Anaheim and Calgary trades options. We'd do one or the other. Idea was to find a veteran 3C and cheaper goalie as back-up in same package.

Why Lambert? Can he play wing

Yes! I think he projects as future winger.

If it were me I don’t know if I’d trade Henrique for less than a 2nd and probably wouldn’t trade Stolarz unless it was a crazy deal

This came out confusing for me.

Sorry, meant to say that if we sign a goalie then no point in trade. They are definitely so cheap options, I’m just hoping that Fitz actually fixes the issue and gets a good goalie.
