Don’t think there’s going to be many takers for that couture contract.

Only way the Rangers trade for Hertl is if he comes with an extension.

If he's coming with an extension the price goes up. Not Krav but it will take Lundkvist.

Three pieces for Hertl with an extension is reasonable, and Nils could be one of them.

I think the organization re-signs him. Attendance is at an all time low and moving Hertl just makes that worse even with Eklund coming back next year. Rumor is the figures are around 8 years 64mil.

Schneider isn't available, so if that's the Sharks price, no deal.

He can only be traded to 3 teams due to his NTC.
He can effectively choose his destination if two of those teams aren't willing, don't need, or are unable to acquire him.
Unless he opens up to more teams, there may be no bidding war or even options for SJ to pursue, so he could very well go for less than market value. Just look at how Buffalo was forced to move Hall to Boston for a mediocre return.

Part of the value of a rental is also residual. Teams have the option to re-sign that player. If he will only sign an extension with one team, the others will be willing to offer less, and the acquiring team can lower their offer as a result.
It's not a given that he will even get market value, let alone added value with an extension. It isn't always that simple.

He could turn out to be yet another example to GMs of why you should be more selective when handing out NMC/NTC's.

If he chooses to exercise his NTC which I don't think he will as long as he is going to a contender. Certainly you have a point but this isn't a "one-way" scenario. If he exercises his NTC yes that limits what Wilson can do but if he doesn't the opposite effect takes place in where there would be a bidding war. Players of Hertl's ability aren't often available come TDL and when they are there is usually quite a lot of offers.

You offered only the low side of this scenario without touching on the potential of the high side. So thanks for telling us absolutely nothing we didn't know already lol. Typical Canadian hockey fan assuming the American fan of a young franchise knows nothing about the intricacies of NHL contracts and trades. You've offered nothing original in your comment. Try harder.

My point was ...

The rest was just explaining what makes his situation different and why it might complicate things, so my point doesn't appear baseless, because I would have to explain it to someone later if not now.
You were already presenting the high side, so I presented the low.

I didn't know and don't care that you're American. There was missing information and another perspective, so I addressed it. If you have an inferiority complex or an issue with dissenting opinions, that's on you.
