Eh no real need for Gillies, but if it's him or a 7th it doesn't really matter. I see the trade as mutually beneficial; NJD get a goalie to finish the year, and EDM gets some cap relief to facilitate other moves.

I could not say it better. Devils need a NHL-caliber goalie for this season. Gillies is not that (more like ECHL).
And our two kids (Schmid, Daws) need more seasoning/experience playing in AHL.
