Avs would probably do that but what do you need for Braun at 50% retention?

Yeah, no. I wouldn't trade Gardiner for Risto 1 for 1.

              Maybe a 2nd+prospect?

Gardiner holds value to the Canes as someone who will be LTIRetired. Risto is useless to the Canes and would not help the Canes. Why Carolina would have to overpay for Philly’s screw up is beyond me. You try shipping Risto off to another team for a package like that, I guarantee that nobody wants him right now. I’ll eat my sock if you can find someone on here who would want Risto for a package like that.

He's not high value on this site, but I'd wager some GM might think otherwise.

It wouldn't be a first time CAR acquires a Finnish rental D-man. And he's made clear he wants to join a playoff team.

While he is Finnish and he wants to join a playoff team, it won’t be Carolina, and it won’t be for that.

Perhaps he won't. But I'd wager Canes will buy a RHD from the market, and there's no many of them currently in there. Risto might be a piece Waddell gets interested in - he was willing to give Deangelo a chance too.

There is a very definite difference between Risto and DeAngelo. DeAngelo is the better player, and also was able to be signed on a low risk high reward contract. That isn’t the case with Risto, who would be more comparable to Zadorov than to DeAngelo. Risto went to Philly on a massive overpayment, and the Canes won’t make that same mistake. Gardiner being LTIRetired is very valuable to the Canes, and he won’t be just a throw in.

As a flyers fan I agree. Not sure Risto can pull more than a 2nd and B prospect.

I do not think the Red Wings accept either. Same with the Kings. I think the Kings deal is fair just not sure why they would groom this kid for Sanheim even though sanheim would be worth the return
