Description
idk how long barzy’s going to be out for but i kinda feel like they should be pretty cautious about it. team’s going nowhere losing is winning etc etc. that said he’s like the only player that makes the team watchable so...

anyway i wonder what they do. koivula is an obvious potential call-up choice but he's also not good so like there's that. parise's played a tiny bit of center this season but he's not ideal in that spot. if only we still had austin czarnik but they put him on waivers instead of ross, who is completely useless, so there's that as well. i wonder if seattle will be waiving him any time soon. idk, it's not a problem worth spending assets to fix really but if any serviceable 5Cs pop up on waivers the isles should claim them.

I have a feeling he’s going to put Bailey at center which is a terrible idea, it is what it is.

Barzal will be out a few weeks according to some isles rumor accounts on Twitter, at this point I just hope they continue to lose enough games to pick in the 7-12 range while guys like Wahlstrom, Bellows, Dobson continue to play well.

losing the games is not going to be an issue imo, according to tankathon our remaining schedule is the second hardest and that doesn't even take into consideration the number of back to backs they're going to have to play. with barzal out i think we could even get to 4-7 range

If we can get to 4 and select Savoie that would be great

I think Raty tops out as a high end 2C. He’s looked dominant in Liiga this season, Jukurit is a lot of fun to watch.

i don't know if he'd take an AHL job but i know in one of friedge's 32 thoughts columns he mentioned that olli jokinen (jukurit's coach) is interested in coaching in north america and if he would take an AHL job i want the islanders to replace brent thompson with him expeditiously

Yeah I saw that, maybe he’d take it if he was promised hed be in consideration for the isles coaching job in the future, Jokinen wants to coach in the NHL.

Brent Thompson really is the worst possible coach for BPT. He doesn’t care about developing players tbh, he’s more concerned about his veterans, which is bizarre for a development league.

he's so bad, it's shocking that he's had this job for this long. the last good player he developed was toews like four years ago, and the last good forward was probably ryan strome which was forever ago. feels like there has to be someone out there that's a better developmental coach for this team. with them drafting lower the past few years you need a guy that can develop under the radar talent and thompson is just not it

If we pick in that range you would rather go with Savoie being a center than a winger like Kemell which isles need more at position

from what i've read scouts believe savoie projects more as a winger than a center at the NHL level due to his size/play-style.

The issue with Thompson is with the forwards, he tries to strip you of your creativity and make you play defense the entire the game.

I assume you’re just not giving him credit for Wahlstrom, he only played 45 games for Thompson anyways so I dont. Another year in the AHL and who knows where Wahlstrom would be now.

In terms of overall impact there have been only 5 forwards in the 2018 + 2019 drafts who have been better than Wahlstrom so far. Zegras, Hughes, Tkachuk, Svechnikov and Boldy. That’s it.

Savioe will be a winger in the NHL and he’s more of a play driver , Kemell is good but he won’t have a better career than Savoie (who has star potential)

yeah, i didn't give him credit for wahlstrom because he was pretty meh at the AHL level and wasn't down there that long. i guess barry kind of does that same thing with young forwards, so maybe it's a perfect fit for the two of them, but it just doesn't make a ton of sense how he still has a job when he's at best developed one NHL forward in five years.

Wahlstrom started his AHL career with 10 points in 13 games, then I heard on a few podcasts that Thompson had a conversation with Wahlstrom to not focus on points, only focus on play away from puck. Then you saw his production drop off. He probably did that with Ho-sang and Bellows too. That is one of the worst development strategies I’ve ever heard of, these kids are not finished products offensively even if they have elite raw skills, they need to develop offensively.

LOL brent thompson is freaking horrible, why would he say that!!! this man's continued employment is life's greatest mystery to me, it's just unfathomable that the organization could be satisfied with what he's doing right now.

For whatever reason Thompson feels a need to humble kids with offensive talent instead of embracing it. I hate it.

I doubt he gets fired so I’m praying Raty makes the team out of camp.
