That's awful for NYI, nothing of value for them.

As you said yourself in the description he has a great contract for two years and is a dependable middle pairing shutdown RHD. If he's moved (big if) then he'd likely warrant something close to or approaching the return that Savard got last year. His contract would be appealing to a lot of teams, and he has a lot of playoff experience the last two years as well.

That one was TBL 1st & 3rd for Savard & 4th, What about keeping in here Gilbert, a 2nd & 5th? Maybe the Avs have a 6th or 7th coming back? I definitely know his appeal which is why having him for the next couple playoff runs would be unreal. I've just heard mixed things of value.

Btw Gilbert is a 26 yr old physical defensive Dman who looks pretty near NHL-ready, continuing development in the A vs fighting the veterans Murray, J.Johnson and MacDermid for ice time and is on an RFA contract. So someone I do think could grow into a similar role as Mayfield as the isles #PainForShane this year. So I feel like he'd be a valuable piece in a trade like this.

A 2nd wouldn't be enough for NYI to part with Mayfield. Remember that he is very useful for their chances of having a good run next year too, so they'd need to be convinced to move him. They could easily fetch a 2nd+ for him at next years deadline as well if they wanted to move him then.

Gilbert is an AHL Dman who NYI can claim on waivers in October. At best he'll top out as a 3rd pairing Dman but that's not really much of a return at the deadline for a player who will be highly coveted with a great contract.

Fair enough, you okay waiting until 2024 for the 1st?

I wouldn't part with a 1st for Mayfield personally. Avs need to save those picks for high-impact players rather than depth players.
