Yeah let's take Mayfield out of the lineup for Grant Hutton that's a great idea

There'd have to be some cap maneuvering but a starting goaltender for a 6th and an AHL goalie? Sure.

Not a chance Minnesota is doing this. We have zero interest in Josh Bailey, nor are we taking on Samyon verlamov. We sure as heck aren't parting with a 1sr round when we just spent one on a G. To think you can slip a 4th liner winger making 5mil, a cap dump And then it's Minnesota who has to pay with Talbot, 1st round pick and 2nd round pick, nope

No chance Min takes a $5m contract for an AHL caliber player when they're about to enter cap hell for the next 2 seasons.

No way Minnesota does that trade unless the Islanders are retaining a ton on both guys (although I have to push back against the Minny fans calling Josh Bailey a "4th liner" or an "AHL player", really shows that you don't know what kind of player he is). Even in a world that they -did- do that trade, why would you turn around and flip Cam Talbot for a bag of beans?

And while I don't disagree with the idea of playing the kids more as the season winds down, I don't know why your decision is to keep pending UFA Zach Parise (on a heater and increasing his trade value every day) and bring in two different, older guys named Hutton when you have younger players who could fill in RD3 and backup goalie (or you just keep playing Scott Mayfield because he hasn't done anything to deserve being scratched?)

And that last point can apply to Kyle Palmieri too - why are you going to scratch him when he's finally showing signs of being the player you want him to be over the past couple weeks? Holmstrom doesn't look ready for 2nd line NHL minutes, and if you really want to move on from Palmieri you're going to get a better return showcasing him when he's playing well than burying him in the press box.

Josh Bailey should never see the ice for the Islanders again. Bring up Koivula.

Bailey and varlamov are good pieces, but not worth a 1st and 2nd with what the wild have coming up.
