No thanks. Detroit does not need right hand defensemen. And that's WAY to much for Timmy anyway.

I wouldn't want Leddy if you have me a 2nd to take him. You won't get a young RD who's getting better.

Don't kid yourself. Detroit are not set at any position, including right defense.
If Yzerman can get a highly skilled young RD like Liljegren for a 2nd round pick and a broken down 30 year old defenseman on an expiring contract, he'll do it.
This would be a terrible trade by Dubas.

He could probably just draft an equivalent player with that second and sell Leddy for a second or third round pick. Also I wouldn't say any team is ever set at any position but right now we have Hronek 24, Lindstrom 23 and Seider 20 as NHL right side defensemen. Then we have Barton 22 and Tuomisto 21 looking like they could transition soon to the NHL, so it's not really a position of need right now. Not knocking Liljgren as I think he is going to be a nice defenseman, but we would be better off trying to get a centre.

Sure. Yzerman *might* be able to draft an equivalent player with the 2nd round pick, but *likely* not.
At some point we need to start acquiring players that can help the team now, not in 4-5 years from now. Liljegren would provide some friendly competition for Lindstrom, and if he continues to develop and comes close to his ceiling, he could challenge Hronek for some minutes in a year or two.
Barton and Tuomisto aren't NHL quality prospects. They're likely AHL depth at best. Neither would crack our top 20 prospects right now.
I agree that we need to address the center position, but that doesn't mean you turn down trades to bolster other positions when they come along.

I don't hate the idea of paying to acquire players, but not quite yet. Still a couple years from competing. Also paying two seconds for a guy that's going to get third pairing minutes doesn't make sense right now when we have alot of other holes to fill.

Ok but he'd be fighting for a spot in Detroit's 3 pair. So why give up a 2nd for a 3rd pair dman.

Who would be fighting for a spot in the 3rd pair and I'm not sure he could beat out Lindstrom for that spot in the 3rd pair.

If you are going to blindly defend the Maple Leafs you should probably sign out of your burner account that says you are a wings fan and sign in to your actual profile. That's 2nd person this week not to bright.

Their defence is so sick, like allowing only 9 goals against by Arizona proves how good defensively Detroit is.

Wings fans are amazing, according to you guys all your players are top shelf and yet you are not remotely close to even a playoff spot. Depth players on better teams wouldn't make the deep and powerful wings team.

Why is it that Leaf fans can't take no for an answer? The Maple Leafs used to be my favorite team (besides Detroit) to root for in the 90's but then I got to know some of their fans. I've been trying to behave on here but you deserve it: 55 years.

Poor guys, don't like being told their roster of Allstars are not in fact Allstars.

Absolutely, I wouldn't trade him at all. He's going to be a good player down the road. He's already better than Leddy.

Definitely players contributing on a better team are worse than players on the worse team. Thats just plain red wings fan logic

So you really think Liljegren is better than Seider and Hronek?

Were you even alive last time the Leafs won a cup? I wasn't but I was alive for the last 6 cups Detroit won.

Detroit did put up 7 against Toronto and according to you Detroit isn't remotely close to the playoffs. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!

Liljegren is better than Hronek for sure. Seider is sick though. As for the lazy chirp at the end, yeah the Leafs haven't won a cup for a while, none of that matters for today though.
