That's not a hockey trade and it's extremely high risk, I wouldn't do that, I'd just wait till he hit FA cause he is not going to sign in Minnesota.

Ottawa is stacked on D prospects. I don't think he would want to sign in Ottawa anyways.

MIN would accept, but McBain may not be willing to sign there. He was worried about center depth in MN (lol), and from my perspective OTT def isn’t gonna be any easier.

Is that really his rationale, or is that just speculation? Gonna have a tough time finding an NHL job if he's that afraid of having to work for it lmao.

No I think it’s mostly just speculation from media guys. I don’t believe he’s actually said anything one way or another, so I shouldn’t completely put the kid on blast.

If that is part of it though, then yeah good luck. He may get a couple games this year, but that will reset next training camp. There isn’t a team in the league that’s gonna promise him a spot.

It's speculation. Here's the quote from Michael Russo's article on the situation:

"McBain likely looks at the Wild as now being hard to crack up the middle, with Ryan Hartman, Joel Eriksson Ek and Freddy Gaudreau in place as 1-2-3 and first-round pick Marco Rossi potentially on his way next season."

That being said, this is a really weird thing to speculate on given how bad our center depth is (and Hartman's ability to play wing) so it makes me wonder if Russo knows more than he's letting on but it came from an off the record conversation or he hasn't been able to get the info from a reliable/multiple sources. That's just me speculating on his speculation, though.

i dont know if i see it for ottawa, mcbain is good but 1c 2c and 3c have basically been filled already, and moving a top 40 pick for him seems like a wasted asset considering he may not even sign. Maybe the tampa second-rounder but i still think its a bit much

Ottawa need a top-6 RW and a top-4 RD

Any asset spent should be with the intention of getting these pieces
