I love the “who is scouting whom” intrigue this time of year. Would be cool if someone kept a list.

Oh I'm sure you could find them. But you don't *need* to be at games nowadays to scout.

Yeah, but if you get one wrong, and never watched the guy play…good way to lose your job.

Looking at their roster, and other than Laine, the only other realistic possible move that would intrigue the Canes would be Gavrikov. He ticks all the right boxes too. Young, cheap, has term, and has a really good game. I would love for the Canes to add Gavrikov, and if the Canes add a top 6 LW at the deadline as well, that would be a very scary roster.

its just easier to check the guy you want to scout. you know exactly when he gets on the ice and you can watch what he does when he is not on camera (positioning and stuff).

i know thats not everyone favorite option, but do you think its possible they are scouting nyquist? might be a good asset to acquire for cheap if they thinks its worth. i know its not a name that excites much but do you think its possible?

It is very possible. Carolina has interest in acquiring a depth defenseman, and a trade like that could be one like the Savard to TB trade. But Nyquist could possibly be another name they look. Canes definitely need help on LW for the short term. Carolina would be looking for a roster player, who is at least signed into next year, and who can be acquired on the cheap and has a lower cap hit. For Nyquist, there would have to be half retention, but also it could be a 3 team trade. Maybe Nyquist and Gavrikov to Arizona with both having half retention by CBJ and Nyquist gets half retention of what’s left by Arizona to all send to Carolina might work. Nyquist would fit the Canes system well, and that goes for Gavrikov, so here is to seeing a trade like that happening.

thanks for the input! i imagine retaining on both players would make the price pretty steep for carolina.

Gavrikov, his play and contract term and aav, would be an excellent fit on a contender. However, CBJ values him tremendously and they are keeping quality vets who want to be there as they rebuild. Do not think they would move him except for a significant overpay such as 1st + or bluechip prospect+, which Suzuki and Bokk are generally not considered to be right now. This trade makes sense in terms of Gavrikov's de-contextualized value, but not in terms of his value to CBJ.

Yep. We'd want more and better. It boils down to the fact that Gavrikov is our best defensive D (and, outside of a still-developing Peeke, arguably our only one), so we can't afford to lose him unless we're getting something really special back.
