It would be a hockey deal, not this so Pitsburgh declines.

If the Pens were able to line up a good replacement for Marino then I'd strongly consider this.

This is a hockey trade. Mittelstadt is a roster player. He's shown promise and is still young, signed to a reasonable contract. Plus, a VGK 1st is trending towards the middle of the first round. I don't know much about the other prospect though.

Also thought about including Jokiharju in this deal somewhere

I think instead of him, maybe upping the quality of the other prospect. I looked him up and while he's a decent goalie prospect, the Pens have three good ones in the system already in Lindberg, Clang and Blomqvist.

He didn’t come out and name names, but on Mareks show he said that there might be a D with term that the penguins would consider moving

I don't know specifically, but I think it's all been tied to the VAN rumors.

I think it's more than likely Pettersson they're considering moving since the Pens have a glut of LHDs.

I like Marino, but this is too rich for my taste for Buffalo.

Also Peterka is untouchable

I would do something around Olofsson + Miller both retain for Marino or maybe Olofsson + Jokiharju for Marino + Kapanen.

No
The initial offer is already too much
Mitts still has a high ceiling
If u guys let Malkin go, he could slide into the 2C role nicely for you

U taking that & assuming it was Marino is reaching….
Why would Pitt be thinking of moving him?
Pettersson is much more likely to be the guy they’d move
Mathewson & Ruhwedel have “term” left as well

Ok Marino and Kapanen for Mitts, Jokiharju, and vegas 1st.

Marino for Mittelstadt, Portillo, 1st

The 1st is nice, but it would need to be not lottery protected. If it is, then the added pieces would be higher.
No interest in Mittelstadt. Poo at faceoffs, softer than Kessel, and doesn't backcheck much. At first I was going to suggest retention, but he really brings nothing so even with retention it's not worth the roster spot and cap hit.
Portillo is a nice piece, but he will probably stay in college and then sign somewhere as a UFA. He is literally a zero net loss to the Sabres to include in a trade. Hextall does like to hord goalies though.
Maybe a UFA depth guy Eakin, Hinostroza,Hagg, Pysyk

Counters:
Marino for one of the UFA above, Portillo, 1st (no protection)
Marino for Peterka/or similar, Portillo, 1st (lottery protected, flip to next year's 1st)

No interest in Kapanen- not over Jokiharju anyways
We need to ADD RH defensemen, that’s why Marino would be of interest in the first place
If we just swap Marino for Jokiharju then it still leaves us with only ONE guy who plays the right side

Sure, if it’s the VGK or FLA 1st
Zero chance you’d get our top10 1st in the deal
You’re crazy to prefer one of those UFAs over Mitts though

There’s also ZERO evidence to expect Portillo to stay in college for TWO more years & become UFA
He’s actually expected to sign with us after his college season is over THIS year

Yeah the pens also need a RHD back. I mean after Marino they have a couple 6/7 dmen on the right side. So trading a top 4 RHD means we’d need one back. You’d be upgrading Jokiharju for Marino and upgrading Mitts for Kap.

If all we are doing is “upgrading” Jokiharju to Marino,
then we can’t be including Mitts- period
And u can’t have both Portillo AND a 1st

We’d need these pieces to go and get ANOTHER top4 RD

Also…. I don’t think u guys would trade Marino
Are there rumors/talk that u guys might move him?
