DET- 2023 contenders- Thoughts

Created by: JhonnyCanuck5
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2022
Published: Mar. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wings trade Namestnikov for Petersson at the 2022 TDL. In the 2022 offseason, Yzerman uncharacteristically spends big on Forsberg. Wings also try to upgrade at 2C with Boone Jenner (or a similar player) for 2 picks, a prospect, and an NHLer. Columbus may want to fully embrace a rebuild and Jenner’s age likely doesn’t fit that timeline.
Should leave room to re-sign key players.

I agree with upgrading at center. But Boone Jenner just won't be available. He's their captain and they just extended him. You gotta figure they're not willing to trade him

Columbus passes, Jenner isn't available. And Filip Forsberg gets between 7 x $8,500,000 to 7 x $9,000,000 noway he takes your offer.

Agree it’s unlikely for Jenner specifically, but this is the type of move I’d like to see; a solid 2C with a low cap hit. Not sure if I got the value right in the trade though?

I don’t see why Pens would have to add draft capital for a rental.

Ask 32 GM’s and ask wether they would want a late 1st round pick. Or a 25 year old, LHD, signed long term to a 4M per contract, plays 17-20 minutes a night on a winning team and has play--off experience. Stay at home D-man, long stick, long reach, moves the puck well too. Good hockey IQ.

They would take the 25 year old, NHL D-man.

Namestnikov and a 3rd for Petersson is a trade I have seen on here 50 times from Pens fans. I don’t know why but if the Pens are willing to trade a 25 year old LD for a rental and a mid round pick, I’m sure the Wings would be interested.

Especially for what D-men are getting paid nowadays his deal is starting to look like a steal.

I once did a trade to Nashville including Pettersson and all their fans hated it. I got so much hate saying “he was overpaid”.

About a week later I did the same trade. And nothing crazy from Nashville either; I think it was C.Scissors and a mid round pick for Petterssson. Except this time I retained just 525,125K and brought Pettersson to 3.5M per.

Then all their fans were loving it, saying “deal” and “Nashville accepts tomorrow” and “Pettersson at 3.5M is great”. lol. 500k is nothing as far as cap space.

I think it’s the 4.99 and $5 thing though. People see that 4 and some numbers after and don’t realize it just 4M plus 25,175k per.

Why would Garland bring back a young NHL D-man(sign long term and just 25 years old), a young, 25 yr old, NHL top 6 wing(mid 6 at worst) that is still a RFA and under team control in Kappy, plus basically two 1st round picks..??

And Fans undervalue both Poulin and PO-J

Poulin and PO-J are two top 100 prospects on any top 100 prospect list out there. Yes, the Pens organization isnt full of “A” prospects/top prospects. But Poulin and PO-J are.

2022 Mckeen hockey(updated monthly) - Poulin-#78, PO-J-#91

https://www.mckeenshockey.com/

2022 mid season hockey writers - Poulin-#75, PO-J-#97

https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-top-100-prospects-ranking/

Another 2022 top 100 prospects list - Poulin #69. PO-J -#80.

https://hockey1on1.com/the-nhls-top-100-prospects/

You can’t find a top 100 prospects list out there(for the past 2-3 years) that Poulin and PO-J arnt in the top 100. And these arnt my opinions. These are NHL writers/NHL scouts opinions.
