The Leafs should not be moving a 1st in any deal. Simply don't have the assets to pull that off.

I get Mzarek has been a fail in Toronto, but his career stats would indicate he is a decent enough tender that the Hawks may look at him as a viable stop gap in what is a very thin market.

See this as a overpay overall, as good as Fleury is. DeHaan is a nice pick up, but cheaper options are out there.

I'm not sure what you're looking at "stats would indicate he is a decent enough tender"?!?! In the last 5 years he's a .905 SV% and -18.6 GSAA on good teams too.

TOR should just buy him out in the offseason. If TOR wants CHI to solve their problems...this is exactly what it'll cost. BUT, TOR should just fix their own issues. Send back other cap that's not as bad like Dermott and Mikheyev and the 1st (Or Knies) and drop DeHaan.

They were simply outplayed, out hustled and out muscled. Don't blame it all on the goalie

Posted a .910ish s% with the Canes...... isn't great, isn't horrible.

Toronto for him has been a sh*tshow.

The Canes have one of the best defenses in the NHL...arguably the best. He's not capable of repeating what he did in CAR. And let's not forget about his injury history...which is getting lengthier. I'm not saying TOR should dump their entire farm system to shed him, but if TOR is looking for other teams to solve their problems it'll take a lot AND it should. Just buy him out in the off season. That's the most realistic approach.

According to Freidman, there is actually a market for Mzarek (what that is I don't know).

My agreement here is what the UFA goalie market looks like. It is thin. Really thin, which is likely why there is a market. Short of Keumper and Campbell, the Hawks are going to be hard pressed to find someone to play 40-50 games.

Not saying the Leafs don't give up something here, but it isn't a 1st. Too thin a market, with better teams (can we say Avs and Edmonton?) looking for a starter further thinning that market.

All the sudden, Mzarek has some sort of value. It may defy logic given the year he has had, but it is there.

I hear you. I just disagree with the result. It's not just Keumper/Campbell, but also Holtby, MAF, and even younger guys like Husso or Frosberg. I'd even prefer a cheap prove it contract with Korpi or Lankinen or even freakin Mikko Koskinen because it won't be $3.8M. It'll be a 1 year $2M contract at most. Your opinion is that it's a really thin goalie market. My opinion is that it's really thin for a #1 Goalie, but Mrazek isn't and won't be a #1 goalie. So is Mrazek better than any of the literally 9 other options I've laid out? No, and it's not that close to me.
