With enough retention to get you guys under the cap, CBJ accept. Maybe add just a *little* more since Zucker is on the hook for next season.

This would all likely assume someone like Nyquist is moved at the TDL or draft, as well.

Garbage trade with the Flyers. MacEwen has 1 goal at 5v5 and has been outscored 24-12 when on the ice. Heinen has 11 goals, 11 assists at 5v5, is on the ice for 34 goals for and 26 against. Way to throw away a good middle 6 winger for a guy who probably shouldn't be in the NHL.

No way would the pens do any of this. Garland for Pettersson is more than fair. No reason to add ERod and a 1st for a bunch of nothing. Heinen is like 5 times the player MacEwan is. The Columbus trade at best is a lateral move.

You’re only getting Garland/Boeser if you give up Marino. Pettersson isn’t a fit for the Canucks

McEwen is just a lower salary with some grit with these trades Heinen is out of the line up anyway

The Columbus trade is kinda a lateral move but frees up about 8M in cap in the off-season and Korpisalo is a upgrade over Desmith

Yeah but we could just keep Zucker and then trade him for a late pick (or we get lucky and Zucker comes back and plays really well and we get a decent pick) and not loose draft capital. The pens were playing way better with Zucker than without him. Korpisalo hasn’t been an upgrade over DeSmith this year.

Keyword “could”
You’re mostly paying for what they did with the current team and hope that they play just as well, if not better for your team. The pens are trading a backup with a sub 3 GAA and above .900 save percentage and a 2nd for a guy who has an above 3 GAA and sub .900 save percentage. And the pens are the team adding the 2nd. It just doesn’t make sense.

Look at the Jackets this year. They have played with almost all new defensemen. They either win or lose high-scoring games this year. It makes the goaltenders look worse when there are no defensemen to help clear the crease/center of the ice. If Korpi plays with good defensemen, then you can rely on him to be consistently good.

Ok but you don’t make trades strictly based on what ifs and possibilities. You make trades on what they have done lately. And lately he has stunk. And what you’re saying is he wouldn’t be able to steal a game. Why would we want to pay for that when we can just keep DeSmith who is less of a cap hit and costs less.

There’s no way you think that Pettersson gets you Garland 1 for 1
