Why exactly would Montreal ever consider this?

Maybe with a fresh start Monhan could bounce back with another team same for Dvorak.

Flames could save almost 2M
Maybe Habs could get a little bonus for taking some cap

Monahan has been trending downward for years, is older, more expensive (when Montreal needs cap space) and has less team control. Unless that bonus was really good, I'd think Montreal would much prefer to keep Dvorak and see how he looks with MSL.

Canadiens wouldn’t do this but I think it would be better to do something that clears all Monahans contract

Monahan and Zary for Dvorak. Montreal retains on Monahan and flips him for whatever pick they can get (maybe a 3rd).

Don't see either team doing it, but that's about what it would have to look like.

Get out of a long term contract while you rebuild

Monahan is a 4th line center and can you even say a bounce back for Dvorak. Guy played 30 games under Ducharme and you’re already throwing him under the bus like he was a cap dump. MTL won’t move in for any less than fir what they got him 1st + 2nd

Dvorak's contract isn't that bad, Montreal isn't doing a tear it down rebuild and they're prioritizing cap flexibility next offseason.

Its just not a thing that makes any sense for Montreal.
