You saw what Hagel got. Not saying Lehkonen is getting that but he’s getting much more than this. First rounder +

After seeing the return for Hagel, I think you are very far off.

The conversation starts with 3 1st's, Crosby and Guentzel.

I was thinking he was worth a 2nd at most, I added the 3rd for retaining his contract plus a depth player. But after seeing the Hagel trade, Lekhonen may as well have the same value as Giroux at this point.

For team that want to compete now, first round pick doesn’t help them at all. First there around 40 % of players pick in the first round that will make it in the NHL (having a impact not just playing a few game). Second it usually take 2-4 years for a players to become impactful.
So for Tampa sacrificing the futur when the present is much more important is a very good decision. First round pick are so overated, its like winning at the lottery. Team that are reconstructing try to buy more ticket to have better odd. Thats is pretty simple.

The 1.5M for two extra years is MASSIVE for Tampa. It's a hefty price, but a great piece to go for 3 other runs with this core in its prime.

Even before the Hagel trade, it was pretty unlikely Montreal would bother trading Lehkonen for anything less than a 1st.

He’s no Toffoli. IMO he’ll get a similar return as Jarnkrok.

1) He's statistically (and IMO generally) better than Jarnkrok basically across the board.
2) He's not a rental.

If other teams are offering less than a 1st or an equivalent prospect, he's not getting moved. Its not more complicated than that.

Pettersson for Lehkonen with retention is fair imo
