McBain has to want to sign in Chicago.

That said, if he does: Talbot+McBain+6th for Fleury sounds okay.

We wouldn't have to trade Talbot. We can have up to 12M over the cap at the TDL, so we have space to just take him on.

I know we have the space, but there's no reason to keep Talbot if we get Fleury.

Minnesota isn't trading a 1st, so I guess it's an unmovable object/unstoppable force situation.

Fleury is a rental and Talbot has a year left on his deal

just would have to add more value to McBain, a 6th and him doesnt get to a 1st in value. I dunno if a 2nd does it for them? Bc they would have to retain right?

Yeah I was looking for a path through without trading the first. I think McBain would be a good fit for Chicago. They need a power forward center.

What would be a first in value? McBain and a 4th? I think we'll get a 2nd for him on his own.

but you have to pay for the retention to make it work. I bet a 2nd and McBain gets it done. I dont know if a 4th does. A 3rd you might if you toss in a sweetener.

We don't need Chicago to retain if it's going to cost a 2nd.

I wouldn't trade McBain to CHI. It just seems like something that will end up biting MN for years.

I'm pretty much set on a 2nd for MAF. Maybe add in some random longshot prospect they like.

MN has $9.5m in cap space saved up, they really don't need the retention. They can make a little more space by sending Dewar and Kahk to the AHL as waiver exempt players too.

Then how does the cap work if you don’t retain

By the Wild having over 9M in cap space right now.

Because this ACGM doesn't account for cap space accrued during the season.

Hawks don't really need McBain. I'm sure something could be worked out, but even just keeping MAF is a fine option with me. At the very least it'll attempt to make the CBJ pick this year worse...it's not like tanking this year is really going to help us anyway.

Look at the Wild team page and the current/deadline cap. They've been under the cap all season and accumulating that much in daily savings. Because they are only roughly 40 days left in the season they currently have an effective cap of roughly $90m and not be over by season's end.

@Caerii and @wabit are right. It would be good if ACGM would update the daily cap, but since it doesn't, we can go 9M "over" the ACGM listed cap at the TDL.
