Retool TDL

Created by: bnormie46
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 21, 2022
Published: Mar. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Sanford can be a solid enforcer and play gritty, I would like the idea of an extension on a cheaper contract.

Ill be Stasny is back next season and I like that Appleton came back, jets need a RW.

I view this is a Retool at the TDL, the Copp return will be interesting

if it becomes a 1st, it’s not a bad deal… 1st + Barron + 2nd.

In for a rude awakening if you're expecting Sanford to be an enforcer and play gritty. He's capable of fighting and being physical, but mostly he plays like a guy who has no idea he's 6'4 210lbs. The off time he plays to the level he's capable of, he can be an effective bottom six power winger, but we've seen maybe a half dozen of those games this season. For the most part he's just been a warm body, wearing skates and collecting a paycheck.

Edit: I'm also pretty sure he hates playing in Canada, so don't hold your breath on an extension.

Wouldn’t be bias, but more so just teams don’t meet the requirements.

Trade return was good on copp. Curious to see how Barron turns out, 2 2nds is decent.

If the 2nd turns to a 1st, then I’ll agree. A 1st + Barron + 2nd is a good return for Copp… but 2 2nds + Barron, not so much.
I used to include Barron as a third piece in Scheifele to NY trades.
I think he’ll be a solid, physical 3rd C, but definitely not top 6 or anything… and those picks, will likely develop into something helpful for the GM after Chevy.

2022 draft picks should actually have an impact sooner rather than later. Also Copp was a 3rd liner, you're essentially getting a replacement for him in Barron + 2 2nds.

I like the return on the Copp trade. The two 2nd rounders will be nice to use as picks or as currency, and Barron seems to be close to being a depth NHL player.

Copp was a Swiss Army knife that could play anywhere in the lineup, in any position, or role… Barron does not replace that.

It also took time for Copp to develop into that. Both guys had very similar NCAA stats and the rangers suck at developing players. The jets ironically have been good in recent years on developing bottom 6 forwards.

How do we know Barron won’t replace that though? We don’t. Like @bnormie46 mentioned both had similar NCAA stats and jets can actually develop players unlike the rangers. Plus the 2nds can be used to trade for other pieces. So I think it’s a major win. A first would’ve been nice of course. But we weren’t getting more than a 1st and lower end prospect for Copp.

Totally agree. Plus Barron brings an aspect that the jets need to build upon. Size.
