Yam and jp will cost much more with that term.
Kass won’t need a first to move but won’t find an agreeable trade on this site including him.
Husso doesn’t have a track record worth investing in too much risk.

So they have security and can live in one place. Buy a house ect.
Puljujärvi might be odd man out anyways. It is all we have to give due to poor management.
Yamamoto has had a 3 year contract already. So whats 2 more years playing with McDavid. What else is he going to get elsewhere?

Maybe if I give them 500k each more like COLTON SISSONS or CASEY CIZIKAS got and signed.

Not much on the Market next year besides Husso.
Who else you thinking? We need a goalie, Smith has got to be done by next year.

Husso had a good 14 game stretch earlier this season, outside that he's been garbage.

Last season: 3.21 GAA, .893 sv%

This year, 1st 14: 1.81 GAA, .945 sv%
This year, 2nd 14: 3.01 GAA, .897 sv%

Spot the 14 game outlier.

Skinner is a better bet.

I'm not sure what the deal with Smith is, and I say this as both a fan of him and the Oilers. If he does return again, it'll likely be for one more season. Let's not forget he had a vezina vote last season, but I think his injury in October really changed him. I am not blind to his poor play, but I would argue most of the goals he and Koski have allowed are because of very poor defense. Skinner and Koskinen/Smith is a safer deal. If we tie ourselves down to Husso (ESPECIALLY AT $4M) then we are likely gonna have another Koskinen situation where we're paying elite money for an above average goalie at best.

Not necessarily… there are goalies out there… you just have to know where to look. Yes, there may not be any in free agency except Kuemper, which may sign in Colorado. However, there are plenty other guys out there. Jake Allen (MTL), James Reimer (SJS), Vitek Vanecek (WASH)… others if they waive are, Semyon Varlamov (NYI), Linus Ullmark (BOS).

In my opinion, we could benefit big time from drafting a goalie too. I have my eyes on two WHL guys. Tyler Brennan for the Prince George Cougars, and Chase Coward for the Red Deer Rebels.

Tyler Brennan: 37GP, 3.33GAA, .905SV%
Chase Coward: 31GP, 2.39GAA, .909SV%.

Drafting a goalie does not help with next year.
I would love Vanecek, but if I am washington, no way I am getting rid of him.
Not sure who Montreal will play in net if they trade Allen.
Reimer would leave SJ short in goalies.
I would love Ullmark, but costly and wont be able to afford one of JP or Yama and same with Semyon.

I know drafting a goalie won’t help for next year, but it will help for the future. If we draft one of Brennan, or Coward, they will grow into good goalies in my opinion. I think Vanecek may be an option, as Washington may go for Varlamov, or Holtby. I think they will find a way around it if they trade Allen. Maybe they resign a few guys to help tank. Also, San Jose has Kahkonen, and Hill… they don’t need Reimer unless they trade Hill. With Ullmark, or Varlamov we would be a good team, but I think we could afford them. Getting rid of Barrie would be good, as that would open up 4.5M. I don’t see them waiving though… if they do, then awesome!

We're honestly fine for goaltending. Skinner and Konovalov have both dominated the AHL (Konovalov also had a tremendous season in the KHL in the last season). It is very realistic that they could become an exceptional goaltending duo.
One the note of other goalies: Montreal declined our offer to include Jake Allen into the Kulak deal and Varlamov reportedly is uninterested in playing in Edmonton.
A lot of these goalie "upgrades" probably won't help in the long run. Getting a guy like Ullmark or Merzilinkis would be nice, but the package we'd have to send may do more harm than good, especially with Skinner and Konovalov in the wings. That's why I'm not too mad that we didn't draft Wallstedt. I mean, I still wish we did, but I don't see him as vital of a draft pick for us as people think.
All in all, I think this and next year will be painful and disappointing for the Oilers organization, but after that I believe we will be really good team. We have so many promising young guys I cannot wait to see in an Oilers uniform.

Konovalov’s .893SV% is not dominating.. not even close. He will be backup at best, and Skinner is a backup too. Skinner is good, but not good enough to be a starter in my opinion. Brennan, and Coward are very good prospects, and will be good in the future. I would love to see a Coward, Skinner tandem in the future. So no, In my opinion we are not fine for goaltending, not even close. We can’t have disappointing years, as we have to play well now. Getting a solid goalie will help us be a good team as we wait for our prospects.

Things can change a lot by offseason but right now as of today I’d think the plan is smith skinner tandem next year cross fingers this years injury issues are more of a fluke than anything.

Holland isn't giving up a 1st round pick to move Kassian, Detroit passes as the player isn't useful.
