In a Kane deal, I think asking for Othmann Ludkvist and a 2023 protected 1st is probably about where it lands. Maybe another lesser asset in there, but I think the rangers primary goal would be to acquire Kane without trading Laf, Kakko, or Schneider. If they can pull that off I think its a good trade for them

Rangers cannot afford to give Kane an extension so any trade for him is a 1 year deal, which isn't worth giving up a young player like Kakko. Deal never happens.

Winnipeg doesn't have the cap space available to overpay for Toews.

I don't think Moving Stillman is the answer. He has been solid since arriving in a Hawks sweater and his cap hit is easy enough to handle for the entirety of the term or if a trade is necessary down the pipeline. For now, he is young enough and good enough to be involved in this rebuild. A player with a role to play if you ask me.

I think its a big overpay for NYI and they would be very unlikely to accept, also don't know they would have the cap to look at Kubalik anyhow.

As for Kane and Toews, yes there is a possibility they get moved though I struggle to see it happening.

If they trade Scheifele they'd have the cap space....

It honestly depends on how kakko plays when he gets back and the other assets involved. If it’s minor (say Chytil and a pick) I think rangers would take that chance and go all in next year.

Not sure if the Isles would make that deal because there aren't any openings for forwards unless someone is injured, so no reason to give up Bellows and picks for what would likely be a 13F (which Bellows is effectively right now).

You would assume though that the Jets would need to replace him with a similar player at a similar cost though. That wouldn't be Toews.

I doubt it. Drury showed patience at TDL and I don't think he's giving up a 21 or 22 year old top 6 forward for 1 year of anyone.

Ah but you're assuming Chevy and Chipman don't still see Toews as a 1 or 2C, they still might and Toews at 50% is taking up less cap space then Scheifele is.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think its a good idea but I could see where Chipman might, think about an off-season where they trade Scheifele and the anger that would cause for many in the fanbase BUT they sign PLD long term AND trade for hometown guy and cup winner Jonny Toews, I could see how that'd appeal to ownership.

Chipman knows Toews, Chevy knows Toews and has ties to the Hawks, Jonny T doesn't sound too happy in Chicago these days and if they sign Dubois to a long extension for what we here think he'll get can they really keep pouty pants Scheifele around when he's already unhappy about his contract?

Seriously in a bad way it kinda makes sense and has TNSE spin written all over it.. lol
