Somewhat realistic offseason

Created by: hockeyconnor97
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 31, 2022
Published: Mar. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Notes:
-Keith likely starts the season over broberg, but I think Broberg takes his spot/splits games on the bottom pair.
-If Dallas doesn't want to give up Hakanpaa, trade barrie for picks and sign a bottom pairing RD (Ideally Lyubushkin, Stralman or Stecher)
- Puljujarvi Yamamoto and Hyman could all be interchangeable on PP1
- Draisaitl Yamamoto and Mcleod can play PK as well
- Koskinen could be signed as insurance in case Skinner plays badly if he asks for under about 800k
- Lines aren't stagnant, I just like Nuge and Hyman together and I think them paired with holloway would be the best third line in the NHL

I cannot complain expecially that Kubalik trade. With McDavid he easily scores 30 goals wink
This team would just need another defenseman at TD to really bulk up or maybe even another forward and it looks good. I also like the Husso signing we gotta get him so we finally get a decent tender

I could be totally wrong but I just don’t see why smith would retire he owed 2.5 million next year I don’t see him leaving that on the table

Ottawa counters with Austin Watson , even up. Some risk in picking Kassian up , he can go off the rails at times but he has a mean streak which the Sens could use. The worst part is the 3.2 for the next 2 years

Ottawa declines. Tkachuks and Kassians don't mix.

Kassian has cleared waivers a few times somewhat recently, so EDM would need to be the team that adds the third.

Ottawa has no spots for Kassian and don't want his salary

    Massive logjam incoming at forward

    Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
    ???????? - Stutzle - ????????
    Formenton - Pinto - Brown
    Watson - White - Joseph

    RFAs : Gaudette, Gambrell

The only 2 spots available are top-6 forward spots.

Contenders for Top-6 spots : 2022 first round pick (if they draft a forward), Ridly Greig? Egor Sokolov? Viktor Lodin? UFA? Trade?
Contenders for Bot-6 spots : Angus Crookshank, Mark Kastelic, Parker Kelly, Cole Reinhardt
Need more development : Roby Jarventie, Philippe Daoust, Zack Ostapchuk, Tyler Boucher, Carson Latimer, etc

I think Greig and Crookshank will be on the team. It will make Watson expendable

Kassian and a 2nd gets you a bag of pucks
Smith not walking away from 2.5M wishful thinking

I don't understand your hard-on for Hakenpaa. He's a meh 3rd pairing defenseman who gets caved when he tries to move up the lineup, he's not worth Tyson Barrie at all. Check out his puckiq.com numbers - he's not especially good defensively. He's 30 years old with zero offensive upside, he's not getting any better going forward. Honestly the Oilers could puck up virtually any league minimum defenseman to do what he does, and not give up a perennial 50-point RHD for him.
