White for Monahan - read description

Description
Ottawa flips White to Calgary for Monahan. White can be bought out at a price of just $875,000 for five years. Monahan is given a fresh start with a new team) waiving his ntc as needed).

Ottawa gets a player that could rebound or be used for depth. His contract gets them a second, they get out from one of their bad contracts. Since Monahan has only 2 years left, his end date aligns with Murray and Zaitsev (all three = $17M) when they have to resign Sanderson, Jarventie, Boucher, Sogaard, Greig, Lassi, JBD, as well as others.

Based on the Harmonic trade, I assume Ottawa doesn't think it can sign new FA this off-season because of market/ownership/business reasons.

Not sure about Talbot trade - my assumption is Minn tears down and needs youth /prospect. Gaudette is a decent bottom 6 who might get you a pick at TDL. Brannstom is question mark whether be becomes anything more than a decent bottom D. Tychonick doesn't look to be a great prospect but might sign near to where he plays (Uni) and two thirds to take Murray's contract. Maybe throw in Gustavsson.

Trades
1.
OTT
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Calgary unloads 6.3M for a cap crunched team and buys out White. Instead of a 2.3M buyout, they get a $875k cost over more years (essentially one league minimum player) and have $5.5M to play with.
CGY
  1. White, Colin
  2. 2022 5th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Ottawa give Monahan a fresh start - and if he rebounds with new linemates - a potential player to flip at TDL for more picks (I don't think Ottawa will be competitive or more than a bubble team next year).
2.
MIN
  1. Brännström, Erik [RFA Rights]
  2. Gaudette, Adam [RFA Rights]
  3. Murray, Matt
  4. Tychonick, Jonathan [Reserve List]

  6. 2023 3rd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Failed top prospects, 4th liner, 2nd round pick in Tychonick (college - UND/U Nebaska-Omaha) and two 3rrs for Talbot and to take Murray's contract

Massive overpayment for Talbot. Ottawa rejects that.

A wild team in cap hell isn't taking on any kind of cap dumps. Those kind of nothing burgers won't get any team to take on Matt Murray either. So Minnesota declines. So will other teams

Ottawa rejectes the Talbot trade, and I think if Monaham bounces back or sometyhing then I think that would be nice.

I don’t think the Flames will be in a spot where they can afford to have any dead cap.

I think they try to send him + to ARI, kinda like the Little deal at the TDL

Talbot trade makes no sense for either side.

Wild can't afford Murray with their 12 million in buyout penalty, Sens already have Forsberg

Monahan would nix a trade to Arizona, unless he is unable to play next year with his surgery from today

It depends. We have no idea who is on his no list, could be higher taxed places or colder climates, we don’t know. The opportunity to play a much larger role on a team like the Coyotes could appeal to him, look at what it’s done for Nick Ritchie.

The only reason Calgary would consider this is to instantly buy out White's even worse contract
