Tell me why Anaheim would even answer the call to hear his trade

Trading Gibson and a top 10 pick for what? A top 6-8 pick? Don’t try and tell me Gibson is the value from 6-& to 8-10

I agree that this probably wouldn't be enough but I think it could be a conversation starter. The Ducks are rebuilding which was apparent when they fully sold at the deadline. With Lukas Dostal in the pipeline, Anaheim would be smart to get as much as possible for Gibson. Moving up in the draft a few spots would help as well as getting a serviceable stopgap who can play until Dostal is ready and eventually be flipped again.

I can't see any reasonable explanation to include a first going back to NJ.

The ask from ANA would probably be:
A first
Blackwood
Luke Hughes
Nolan Foote

But I highly doubt NJ would entertain moving Hughes.

Gibson has had a negative expected goals saved for the past 3 seasons. He's not that good anymore.

I think it's more like the team in front of him isn't that good anymore. If he wasn't that good, why are you trading for him?

Goals saved above expected is a goalie isolated stat. And the Devils have had literal dog**** in net all year literally anything would be an upgrade lmao. I wouldn't be against picking up a formerly elite goalie and hoping that he can return to form. I'll concede that my original offer is not enough but yours is complete overkill too. Gibson for Blackwood, Foote, and the 2022 1st and maybe another pick or mid-tier prospect should probably get it done imo.

Actually I didn't have an offer but nonetheless, there are better options for both teams and don't see Anaheim giving up Gibson for anything like that. Although trading him to an Eastern based team makes more sense that most people would think. I would also think free agency would be more appealing to the Devils than trading and they did show some initiative by signing Hamilton last year. I will end this by asking what's Anaheim motivation for this trade?
