Hellebuyck to BUF makes no sense. Hellebuyck does not fit into their timeline at all as he’ll simply walk before they start really contending. and Winnipeg definitely will not trade him unless it’s a massive return. even then i can’t see them doing it with how loyal the organization is. BUF would have to give up multiple pieces of their young core for a guy who’s gonna walk in a couple years. Just doesn’t really make sense for either side

The blasphemy here is the other trade. If I’m not mistaken Milan Lucic still has a modified no trade clause, and I wouldn’t doubt that he would never want to come here. Which is totally fine because I think most of Buffalo’s Fanbase wants nothing to do with him.

Trading for a Vezina caliber goaltender is bold, but it wouldn’t make the impact you’d be hoping it would. It would be an example of one step forward two steps back. You’d be ripping the core out of this team before they even have a chance to prove they have one. I’m all for adding another veteran goaltender next year for the young guys to learn from, but not at the cost of blowing up the rebuild.

This argument is pretty invalid. We saw what a difference Anderson made. The Sabres are ready to compete now as well. And the year after next season, they bring up Levi under Hellebuyck for a season, the timing works out great. Buffalo is giving up pieces of its young core, and goalies do not carry the same value as an equally talent forward or dman

They arent giving up something that isnt a redundancy on the roster. Mitts- the Sabres have Krebs now, Byson- replaced by Power or the 2 much needed vets but they also have Fitz Johnson Luukkonen and Pysyk if they keep him, UPL- well, Hellebuyck but also Levi and Portillo

If hellys traded there’s probably a bit of a sale in Winnipeg, possibly upgrade another in the top 6 group, or a veteran dman to be had for the blockbuster. Ehlers or Connor would be perfect fits for this build, but not sure how chaotic this summer is going to be in Winnipeg.

I personally don't like the trade, but he would definitely help. Sabres have lost 9 games where they had a 2 goal lead, something like 14 or 15 when having a lead going into the 3rd, and a lot of that had to do with a lot of bad goaltending. Didn't help we were down to are 5 and 6th goalies at one point. But Helly could push Buffalo into the picture next year.

They are not ready to compete yet. They have had a good month and are still 23 points back of the last wild card spot! As fans we need to not get our hopes up and I hope management doesn't try something like this to rush them forward like Murray did. They look so much better but lets not kid ourselves, we might be competing to be "in the hunt" for the last wild card spot around this time next year and that'd be substantial growth.

Is Hellebuyck even a great goalie??
Bc his save% has been pretty average 3 of the last 4 years
.912, .916, .922, .913

And that’s a hell of a package to give up for a 28 year old goalie

But that move doesn’t make us Cup Contenders either
And if Klingberg doesn’t sign as a UFA with us, then we don’t have much left to trade to get that top4 RD

If they had Anderson all season, they would be along side Columbus. Theyre adding Power and a mature Quinn to the lineup next year and possibly Peterka for a bit. Consistent goaltending will give them a chance to compete for a wc spot. Id put money on it

They dont need a 7 mill dollar rd to make them competitive, i also dont need them to be cup contenders immediately. Just get to the playoffs, why are we even talking cup with 0 playoff experience

They had a consistent goalie in March, for the first time all year. So yes i think adding a top 10 goalie in the league makes them a competitor. Im not asking them to win the cup immediately. If they had Anderson all year, theyd be where Columbus is

Bc the Cup is still the goal
And it’ll be really hard to compete for that if one of those big contracts don’t wrk out
