Contenders Next Year

Created by: AndrewGoalie33
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2022
Published: Apr. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this team would be contending for a playoff spot this year if not for the horrid start to the season. The long road trip + injuries to key players + losing everyone to COVID really dug this team into a whole. Isles have been playing a lot better since the all-star break, but its going to take a miracle to make the playoffs. Next year is THE year, because Barzal’s contract is up after next year and he is due for a huge raise.

He was rough at the beginning of the season but he’s got better. Plus he always plays great in the playoffs, and the goal for this ACGM team is to win the cup.

You could offer the Wild a thousand Kieffer Bellows with a 1st and the answer would still be NO!!

I think the only way Bill Guerin trades Fiala to the Isles is if it’s Aatu Räty and the 2023 1st with top 10 protection. I don’t see him having any interest in Bellows.

Well if the Wild have no money for Fiala, a lottery pick + Bellows is a pretty good return

Nah Isles aren’t trading Raty for an RFA that they have to sign. This trade is assuming that the Wild don’t have money for Fiala, which would make this package pretty good for them.

The Wild have money for Fiala though so I’m not sure why you’re assuming they won’t? Guerin isn’t trading a 1st line winger for a 3rd line winger and a middle 1st round draft pick.

Hes been a below replacement level player this season and also even if you were gonna keep him why did you break up
27-29-18 for him

Wasn’t sure what the exact lines were because they’ve changed a lot this szn. If that’s the case I’ll just change it

The cap-hit from Suter’s and Parise’s buyouts get up to 6.5 mil each, so unless they move a bunch of guys/don’t re-sign anyone, they won’t have a lot of money for Fiala

Bailey is an easy scapegoat because he’s not the most physical player, but he’s not a negative asset like some Islanders fans think. They lost Nelson and Pulock to injury. They had Covid issues and they started the season on a 13 game road trip. Even after all that this team would still have made the playoffs if not for Chara and Greene.

Honestly I think everyone’s numbers are terrible cause of the road trip and the Covid issue. Not to mention that Chara and Greene are horrendous. The Islanders may have been better off with Parker Wotherspoon and Mitch Vande Sompel. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂😂😂

Greene isnt the worst. I think lou will bring him back and if hes the 7th d and doesnt play regularly i wouldnt mind it really. Charas got to be the worst player in the nhl this year.

I don’t think Greene plays another year. If he’s back it’s as a coach.

Reilly is a defensive liability. Why trade so much?

Isles desperately need a LHD and is basically agreed upon on this website that Reilly is getting traded to the Isles for a 2022 3rd. Didn’t want to give up a 2022 3rd, so I made it a 2024 3rd and threw in a 5th.

What????????????????? Just bc hes small doesnt mean hes bad defensively. Hes giving up less than 2 expected goals against per 60. Thats elite chance supression.

I didn’t say why. I saw him with the Habs and Sens and he was worse than Zaitsev, I don’t know the stats. Every time there was a goal, it was almost always him. Unless you enjoy experiments like Cody Ceci, Nikita Zaitsev or Keith Yandle, I’d say stay away from this one. But, it’s a W for Bruins fans, so I’m sure they won’t mind.

Hes elite at suppressing chances against. No experiments needed. Yandle was never supposed to be good defensively, zaitsev is the classic terrible player that get paid and played bc theyre massive and ceci has had a couple of bounceback seasons.
