We may never win again - please hockey gods fix our D

Created by: Mystaes

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 31, 2022

Description
Updated per EF’s reports that Meyer is being heavily courted by Det.... even though I bet he goes to Minnesota

Pray we draft Lambert or Nazar unless a 2C trade materializes.

Substitute Reilly with schmidt or Peterson for similar cost. Idc. Please hockey gods spare us this lhd.

My heart wants Trocheck 4 x 6.5 or something to spare us this torment. My mind says build through the draft,

I like Reilly more than pettersson or Schmidt but I think ultimately its forbert who ends up out of Boston and not reilly.

monahan’s not the same guy he was 2 years ago but he’d still be 2C with those centres

i think calgary would do that deal in the offseason for sure, picking up an affordable middle six centre is a priority because i don’t think we can afford to resign jarnkrok

No thanks on Sean Monahan, Pius Suter has similar numbers as Monahan. And Monahan just had season ending hip surgery which always worries me down the road.

Were this beginning of the season veleno id agree. But he’s really come on and looked like a good 3C as of late and is still young. I don’t mind either way but he could do with the icetime for development purposes as a middle six centre.

Whether Monahan plays 4 or 3 it doesn’t matter to me - he meat of it is the second and allowing us to reach the floor without tying us down long term.

It’s definitely a downgrade to Suter. But Suter is a ufa, we get a second and reach the cap floor and breach it with enough that we can actually make trades at deadline.

As I’ve said previously I expect we sell Suter at deadline if not here as there won’t really be space for him in “the future Detroit” with veleno at 3C and a real 2C. He could maybe be a winger but we have a lot of middle six and bottom six wingers in the system that are younger and cheaper.

I can do without the Monahan swap as long as we fix coaching and defense a little Lol.

At this point whatever affordable but competent top4 lhd with 2-3 year term we can find will suffice.

I think it would mostly be giving monahan tougher minutes to not burn veleno out (buffalo gave mittelstadt big minutes immediately and set his development back 3-4 years). plus mony does better on a scoring line/he’s more of a pp specialist now so you’d probably get more out of him with bertuzzi then erne

There are few teams that have cap to spare to sign UFAs without dismantling their teams. Gotta think Wings will be active in the UFA very soon. Wings will spending to the cap soon, whether through UFA or well deserved RFA signings. Leafs went to 1st overall pick to a good team in a short time. No reason the Wings can't either.

It's a much better option to trade Fabbri and keep Suter on the wing.

Pius is much better defensively than Fabbri, he's third on the team in takeaways (per 60) and one of the very few players on the team that have more takeaways than giveaways. With a third line of Veleno at centre, Suter at LW, and Berggren at RW we'll have fun next season.
