I'm surprised that EDM would want Branny, he's an offensive defenseman and they're already gonna have to move Barrie

Considering Ottawa gave up Mark Stone for Brannstrom. I highly doubt they'll give him up for that offer.

You'd be surprised how down some people are about him, I think out of resentment for that trade. Melnyk (RIP) wanted to cheap out on the Stone contract which is why he was moved, it wasn't like a hockey trade

There is more to it than that. Ottawa had the same contract on the table as Vegas. Stone wanted to win now rather than sit through a rebuild despite what Ottawa would eventually have.

The prospect and draft pick are going to the wrong team. Brannstrom isn't yet a full-time NHLer, Yamamoto is.

Not a good fit for either club tbh.

Neither of your cap dumps do Edmonton much of a favour either. Kassian will be bought out instead of burning assets to move him. Keith likely remains an Oiler for his final year.

I'm not opposed to moving him for something that Ottawa needs right now (top 6 forward). Has Yamamoto reached that peak yet? Maybe? I haven't really paid any attention to him.

      He's a full time NHLer... just not a top 4 D yet.

Having just crossed the "has played an entire half-season" threshold suggests the exact opposite.

I'd be completely unsurprised if Brannstrom gets the full 82 games next year but he's yet to do that. He's still far too raw to be trading that kind of package for.

I agree with the value of the trade, I'd be straight up happy with an early 2nd or another project player, but your basis of Brannstrom not being a full time NHLer is odd. 106 games so far in his career and not yet a full NHLer?

Easy no from Edmonton. Brannstrom is being WAY overrated here. Take out Yamamoto and Kesselring and I'm still not sure I'd do it.

If he starts next season in the NHL then I'm fully willing to accept him as a full-time NHLer. I think his having been called-up in November and staying with the big club is a very positive arrow but the caveat is he's playing on a club that was a seller at the deadline and keeps Del Zotto around as a legitimate option. He's still only ever tacked 43 games in a season as his high water mark, would you not find that concerning as the acquiring club? He's played on average a third of the season each year of his ELC.

If Edmonton wanted a defenceman to play fractions of a full season they could just split Keith and Samorukov at #3LD.

Brannstrom isn't even very good offensively though. He has just 11 points in 43 games this year, which pales in comparison to Edmonton's Evan Bouchard, who has 10 goals and 38 points so far. I honestly think that Brannstrom wouldn't be able to crack the Oilers roster. They aren't trading high end assets for him.

You'd be surprised how much his value has tanked this year. He spent some time in the minors and struggled before finally being called up. With Chabot injured, he's been given a massive opportunity in these last few weeks and hasn't seized it. He's been running the first pp for the last 12 ish games and hasn't been impressive although it's supposedly his biggest strength. He's just such a weak player and gets destroyed by pretty much all opposing forwards in his own zone. The guy is incapable of boxing out his man in front of the net and isn't a great skater for an offensive Dman. He will make the occasional really nice pass and have a good game every once and awhile but that's about it.

There was an article in The Athletic recently where they were interviewing league execs/pro scouts and running mock trades with them. Brannstrom's name came up numerous times and they all said his current value is a mid round pick maybe a second at best.

We traded Mark Stone fore nothing and I've made peace with it. Rebuild is still super promising and the massive return from the EK trade helps the fanbase cope.

Brannstrom is a player that people don't really have a good read on.

He has obvious NHL talent but still has a lot of cleaning to do to improve his game (both ways). People quickly forget he's still 22 y/o

What he needs is coaching, although I am not sure Ottawa is the best place for his development.

I would take a 3rd round pick instead of Yamamoto + Kesselring

So Brannstrom for 2nd + 3rd is fine with me

Well unless the team is sold and all management and coaching staff are cleared.

In that case I wouldn't be trading Brannstrom.
