Here we go again

Created by: JhonnyCanuck5
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2022
Published: Apr. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wings address the LD trading for Petersson and signing Giodano to be a short term solution while the prospects develop and to be a mentor in the room. Hopefully by mid season, Edvinsson is ready for a top 4 role and can switch with Giordano.

New coach is needed.

2C still needs to be addressed but maybe they give Berggren a shot to earn it?

  2. 2023 6th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
I know the consensus is a 3rd for Petersson, but here’s an idea that saves a higher draft pick?
McIsaac can still be an NHL player but Detroit has a logjam at LD in the prospect pool.

It's not a bad idea to sign Gio. He'd be good for Seider. But he's a Toronto boy and is now playing for his hometown Leafs. He'll take a sizeable discount to stay in Toronto in my opinion.

Just curious, do you really see him staying in Toronto? My money would be on Calgary,

I get the childhood team piece, but he has lived in CGY for the better part of two decades......... I would just think that is his destination

I do agree though I couldn't see him going anywhere but CGY or TOR

If you want to save a pick then have Detroit sign Zadorov put him in the 2nd pair with Hronek.

If Toronto makes it to the conference finals I think he stays. If Toronto wins he might retire or he might stay. Staying would depend on a contract that works for both parties. If he does retire then he will sign with Calgary to retire as a Flame. So I agree it's TOR or CGY.

The Bolts have looked shaky against the Leafs so I'd be careful about the one and done

I'd gladly give a 3rd round pick for Marcus Pettersson, I'd be weary of McIsaac he's already had like 3 major shoulder operations. I truly hope he makes it just don't see it happening in detroit though.

Thought about it, I just think Petersson is a better fit.

While I don’t necessarily disagree, another factor is with Toronto, if they resign Giordano, they leave themselves very vulnerable to lose Sundin or Liljgren to an offer sheet. As for Calgary, if they want to keep Gaudreau, i don’t know if they have room for Giordano and their young FAs.

Pittsburgh has been trying to move Pettersson for a while now and yes he would probably be a good fit. So why is he still in Pittsburgh?

Can’t speak for other teams, but from Detroit’s perspective, they weren’t looking to buy at the TDL.

It could be that Pittsburgh doesn't agree with their fans here and they put his value above a 3rd round pick. As I've said with other options out there he really isn't worth more than a 3rd. Ok here's my theory and it makes a lot of sense based on Yzerman's previous action's. When Yzerman has brought in vets it has been with only 1 or 2 years left on their contracts. Pettersson has 3yrs left and when I asked a Pittsburgh fan why they would let him go so cheap that fan said:

Probably, he's been benched multiple times and takes up over 4 mil. Could be used on another defenseman with similar production for a cheaper cost.

It's no secret that Yzerman is big on character so that could play a part and with 3yrs left and he doesn't fit no you are stuck with an unhappy player, team or coach. A player with 1 season left is a lot easier to move than a player with 2 seasons left.

I agree. If Pit is asking for more than a 3rd, I’d think Detroit moves on to Schmidt, Martinez, and so on.

I agree with that. I knew I'd probably be alone in thinking Zadorov would be a good partner for Hronek but I think he would cover up some of Hronek's defensive inadequacies.

I’m not against signing Zadorov at all, I just think someone is going to overpay him for too long. If he can be had for around 4x3, I’d take it.

Loosing Sundin would be a blessing for the Leafs
