PLEASE GIVE THE FULL STORY, SIX EVEN STRAIGHT GOALS AND FOUR SHORT HANDED GOALS. Be fair, breakdown all other players , not just Hyman.
Admitting 3.65m is too much. But somehow you Hyman seems to your whipping boy for not even getting 2m. Sorry to inform you that many 3rd line wingers get 3 m a year.

The more you write about Hyman and Brown and the Leafs RFA, it shows that you know nothing about the CBA and values of hockey players. And you think you're an expert on the Leafs? LOL

I said 6 even strength goals. How many people score 4 or more shorthanded goals every year? Not many.

He has ONE YEAR in the league, that doesn't get him a 400% raise.

I'm more of an expert than many of the people here. Considering some of my personal clients in my business are the player agents, the players, and management.

False news? Lol. I have a friend who is friend's with the Hyman family.

So if he is worth $3M, then please tell me why Mason Raymond got bought out after 1 year of his 3 year $9M deal? It's because you can't pay people $3M to score 10 goals where 4 are short handed.

Brown had 18 even strength goals.

Even strength goals are a better view of talent because you play MOST of your time at even strength. He doesn't win faceoffs, he doesn't play centre.

You're one angry, overly opinionated little man. Your Third liner is Babcock's L1 and he creates a ton of space for Matthews and Nylander/Brown/whoever is playing R1 by crashing and banging and drawing heat to himself. He is relentless in the corners and in front of the net and he forechecks like his job depends on it. Also a FANTASTIC penalty killer who has earned his coach's respect, which is worth a lot more than your amateur criticism of him. He represents everything that the pre-shanny Leafs could never be: coachable, self-driven, forechecks without being reminded to do so (you couldn't pay the 2013-14 Leafs to forecheck) and he plays a gritty, unpleasant game that makes him invaluable. I watched almost decade of Leafs hockey in which nobody with any skill would stand in front of the net and pay the price to set up a layered screen or bang in a greasy rebound because nobody was willing to get cross checked all night. Remember Luca Caputi? Penguins pick who was supposed to be the guy Ponikarovsky could only manage to be when he felt brave enough to use his big body to establish net-front presence. Hyman isn't there on the top line to be a goal scorer. You clearly don't understand his role. He's there to do the heavy lifting, and draw fire away from Matthews and disrupt the defense. It's Babcock's go-to strategy, Hyman was there on Matthews' wing all year, and he accomplished the task set out by his coach as expected. If 3.6 seems like an overpay for a top line winger who has earned his coach' trust, you go on ahead and explain your position, and don't use the goal totals argument because that's already been debunked.

Doesn't matter. He was on the wing because there was NO ONE ELSE. You can't put a guy up there who scores TEN goals the entire year. Sorry dude, you over value something that the Leafs have in their system, they need a top line forward to play with him, especially if they want to move Nylander to centre in the future. If not, you still need someone who can finish something. His nickname is HANDS OF STONE HYMAN. 6 goals kind of proves that.

Lots of guys who played SIGNIFICANTLY less this past year did so much more for their teams.

Again you demonstrate your myopic, narrow-minded view of how a team is constructed. Hyman doesn't need to be a 30 goal scorer to justify 3+M. He just needs to be intrinsic to the line that Matthews is on and be the top line PK specialist that he is.No one else you say, in caps...what about Josh Leivo Leo Komarov (had 19 the year before)? Both good sturdy forecheckers with NHL shooting abilities, yet Babs didn't move Hyman off Matthews' wing all year. What does that tell you? Claiming there was "NO ONE ELSE" is patently false. What a handful of troglodytes with limited understanding of the Babcock system want to call Hyman means nothing. He's a gamer. I admit 3.6 is generous but as the saying goes: "pay peanuts, you get monkeys". Hyman does all thats asked and more of him. He doesn't score a ton on the top line because he's committed to his role and to following the coach's instructions, not personal stats.

Hyman needs to be more than a 10 goal scorer to be a $3M player. Hyman isn't staying on Matthews wing forever, the fact that you think that shows how little you know about hockey. 2 years ago the Leafs were tanking. Where was Hyman going to go. He wasn't shipping him to the 4th line, and there was no reason to move him to Bozak or Kadri as they had their LW's. Hyman was pretty much there because there was NOWHERE ELSE for him to go. It is generally accepted that he should NOT be there. He doesn't score a ton because he isn't that good, for him to play with the LEAGUE LEADER in even strength goals and only have 6 himself shows lack of finish. I'm not arguing with you about the penalty killing and everything else, but what he is, is a THIRD LINE FORWARD and NOTHING MORE. The fact you want to pay him $3.65M is pretty sad and shows your LACK of knowledge.

The best thing is for him to be given a ONE YEAR deal to make sure that he is worth it. Then sign him long term, but Hyman is the type of player that teams typically OVERPAY because of "work ethic". Work Ethic doesn't win you TITLES. It's why the Raptors have ZERO chance against the Cavs now, because they lack the TALENT.

I'm sorry that it hurts your feelings that you think of Hyman of anything more than a Darcy Tucker or Tie Domi. It's also sad that Toronto fans fall in love with "try hard guys" who have no talent like Tie and Darcy. That's part of the reason why the Leafs miss out on GOOD players, because they are too busy with the "try hard" guys.

Zero clue. How is a guy who had 6 EVEN STRENGTH GOALS worth $3.655M? He isn't.

Leafs will most likely go for 1 year or 4 years. 2 years makes no sense, and if you're going 3 years, you go 4 years. If his top end after 4 years is a 3rd line forward at 10 goals, that's no better than $2.5M but I'm going up slowly to $2.5M and will cap him at $2M with $1.7M, $1.9M, $2.1M, $2.3M. His place on the team can be taken by Leivo, Leipsic, Kapanen and many others, he didn't provide much beyond working hard and short handed situations.

Your go-to lame-ass debate strategy isn't based on relevant talking points. Your reaction is emotionally-charged and based on personal attack. Well that and a cursory understanding of numbers. Your a bean counter. I know a hell of a lot more about hockey than you think, and we can debate the game all day if you are so inclined. Your limited understanding of the Babcock strategy, which is to have your top line consist of a grinder, a playmaker and a finisher, is evident. Do some homework before yapping like you're the expert here. Clearly, you are anything but. You have no appreciation of the finer points of the game. Hyman understands his marching orders perfectly: attack with speed, create turmoil for defenders and goalies and draw fire away from the playmaker and the finisher to make space for them. Mission accomplished. He's also-- once again, because you can't seem to appreciate the point -- an EXCELLENT penalty killer, which factors into his value. And for the record, guys with 'hands of stone' don't score four shorties in a season. He scores shorthanded because he works harder on the PK than EVERYONE ELSE out on the ice. He's always on the right side of the puck and for the record, because you obviously didn't know this, two years ago, Hyman wasn't a Leaf. He was a Marlie. If your argument is that Babcock stuck Hyman on the top line because he had nowhere else to stick him, it is you that has literally no clue how any of this works. If you're playing top line minutes for Babcock, it is not a default assignment; you've earned it. You don't think work ethic wins championships? were you around at all when the Pens won their first cup with Sid and Malkin? Who was more productive when 87 was getting double teamed and hacked to pieces by the red wings? ANSWER Max Talbot. He had 12 regular season goals that year. He also had eight playoff goals. You may recall, some of those were pretty big ones VS DET.
Ask Sundin about Domi and the impact he had on his career. He said he wouldn't have had half the success he had if Domi wasn't out there keeping the wolves at bay. And Tucker was a hell of a lot more than a "try-hard" player. He could change the complexion of a game with a single shift, and he had five 20+ goal seasons while playing 947 NHL games. You need talent to make that happen. You're a numbers guy, clearly. You also appear to have little understanding of the finer points. Hyman gets it done. The team starts on time because of players like him who come ready and set the tone. So unless a deal for Matthew Tcachuk is in the works, I don't see Hyman going anywhere. He'll stay on the top line as long as the results are favorable, and they are. 3.6 for a top-line LW isn't unreasonable. It's generous, but it isn't outlandish. Not for a guy who puts his line mates
in the position to have success.

So says the "genius" who just claimed that Hyman was gifted top line minutes alongside this year's Calder winner because there was nobody else available. Take a lap guy.
