Doubt the Leafs would do that due to cap issues. They've already got 3 RHD and taking on a 4th for twice the cost of the player they are moving out doesn't really make sense for them.

Quickly denied by Toronto. Engvall is one of the most underrated players in the league - guy is a beast defensively and brings a ton of speed and size. A perfect third line option and likely a big reason why Toronto wouldn’t make the Hagel/Fleury trade. I don’t see him available this off-season until contract talks go way south

Those 2 don’t get you Debrusk alone.

Both teams decline the first trade, Toronto has an excess of RDs, and Washington doesn't have use for Engvall over similar use players such as Larsson (if he resigns), Leason, and Jonsson-Fjallby.

Washington ignores the Boston trade, Debrusk is a more expensive Sheary who scores a couple more goals, but both had around 40 points (43 for Sheary, 42 for Debrusk) and Sheary did that with Eller and a rolling 3RW. Protas is a better prospect, so Washington doesn't go near that.

That Maatta contract would be a terrible decision, he's meh and Washington already has Orlov on the left side along with Fehervary, and Alexeyev and Johansen ready for the NHL. Cole is also unnecessary. Dumping Jensen for an overpay in Maatta and Cole, who doesn't fill a need here, would be a mistake.

Vanecek is better, younger, and likely around the same price as Holtby, and Holtby is closer to an age of regression while not bringing anything more valuable than fan service to the team.

Eller should be gone in the offseason, it gives room for another prospect to come up, lets McMichael play his natural position, and saves money.

only thing i would add is that nick jensen is criminally underrated and one of the best 2RD in the league, something much more valuable than a bottom 6 winger.

Maatta $4.25Mx3? Closer to $1.25Mx3.

He is a 3rd pairing guy that doesn't make big mistakes, but doesn't do anything very well. He is no more than another van Riemsdyk level and should be paid that way.
