Agreed that's a lot for a rebuilding team to give up for a 31yr old defenseman. I'm pretty sure Nashville doesn't make that trade in the first place if they wanted to trade they wouldn't have just signed him to a 4yr contract.

The value for Ekholm is fine for a team ready to compete for a cup RIGHT NOW. The fit is not there in Detroit, so I can't see Yzerman trading for a 6.5m, 31yo defenseman who will be close to 36 by the end of his contract. The final few years of that deal are going to suck, so a team ready to win now trades the few bad years down the road for the couple good years now. That is not Detroit.

The returns on the trades are so low. DET may not be a good fit for an Ekholm trade, but NSH isn't getting anything worth trading him for in return. Glass has more potential than you can expect to find in the 4th round.
