Sabres pass
We’re looking for a “1a” goalie, not a backup or “1b” type
Especially not one coming off a below .900save% season

We’ve got a young guy (UPL) coming up next season to fill
that role

UPL never seems to be healthy. Doesn't hurt to have 3+ capable NHL goaltenders on the roster.

I don’t disagree with you
But i also don’t think the Sabres will go that route
If we did, i could see us bringing back Anderson to be the 3rd guy

Either way, your trade seems very unlikely to me

Sure, it would be nice to have a third NHL capable goaltender in your organization. Brossoit is not an NHL capable goaltender, but he is overpaid. Buffalo can throw a dart at the names in free agency and find a better goaltender who costs less.

Brossoit isn't great, but he still would've been the best goalie analytically on your roster excluding UPL. Better than Tokarski, Dell, and Anderson. He's a perfectly capable backup goalie. You'd also be getting a pick to take him.

Brossoit makes as much money as all three of the guys you mentioned to put together. A fifth round pick is not nearly enough to take on a goaltender whose contract you can only bury half of if he continues to play like crap. Buffalo isn’t in the business of doing Vegas any favors. If Vegas can offer the Sabres something they want we can start the conversation there. Buffalo doesn’t have to look far for AHL caliber goaltending, and it will cost less too.

I mean he's better than all three guys too.

Why would it matter? They are a western team. Who cares? You get a pick similar to the amount of money that you got from Butcher. Sabres have so much space and it's only a 1 year deal.

> half of if he continues to play like crap.

He's more slightly below average than crap

> Buffalo doesn’t have to look far for AHL caliber goaltending, and it will cost less too.

Aaron Dell is AHL goaltending and he's far worse than Brossoit, Brossoit is NHL backup goaltending.

Let’s agree to disagree. The Sabres don’t need to take on a bad contract to solve the backup goaltender need. I know if Anderson decides to continue playing the Sabres might bring him back. Brossoit may have slightly better numbers than Anderson this past year, but let’s not pretend that he didn’t have a significantly better team and defense in front of him most of the season. to put up numbers only slightly better than Anderson with the team he’s playing with, that’s not good.

Buffalo have plenty of options for how they want to spend their money. I think one of them would be taking on the contract for James van Riemsdyk, because he is a power forward who scored 23 goals this year and could fit their need for more size in the lineup. Sure, his $7 million cap hit is well above his value, but he’s also only being paid $5 million next year in real money. They can also sign PK Subban in free agency who fills a need for a veteran right-handed defender to help lead their very young defense core. His days of asking for five or $6 million a year are over, but especially if the Sabres retain his brother’s services as a goaltender in the AHL or taxi squad goalie maybe he’d come too. Realistically the Sabres are looking for a veteran goaltender they know can play 40+ games and actually stand a chance of winning more than half of them. Brossoit is not that guy. But with a guy like that splitting games with Luukkonen the Sabres could legitimately be a playoff contender next year.
