Created by: MinnesnowtaWild
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: May 16, 2022
Published: May 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'd like to add Fluery but I think he goes back to PIT.

I'd like to try Nylander at C, but if he can't do it then just switch him and Hartman.

Oof, what does a Fiala extension look like?

This is kind of intriguing.

I think a Sam Reinhart extension is a pretty fair comparable (3 years x $6.5 mil)

I have long wanted Nylander but that's too much. He only has 2 years on his deal before he could just walk in free agency while Fiala could be signed to a long-term deal. Not sure if it's worth trying him at center at this point in his career.

That puts him at 28 years old, with another opportunity to cash in with a long term deal after that hypothetical contract.

I guess it all depends if Fiala wants to cash in now, or take another short term deal before really cashing in.

Sam was traded a year before his breakout year and with one RFA year left. Kevin just had his and is a pending UFA. Apples to oranges IMO

So Toronto gets 3M Dumba and signs Fiala for how much? Way over Nylander's 7M with those two combined.

I love Fiala, but I doubt management signs him long term. I think getting a player like Nylander could really help our power play as a right shot and has a shot to play C. If he can't play C, just switch him with Hartman on the depth chart.

Nylander's deal lines up with Zucc in term, so there'd be room to pay him if it's a good fit.

$3M Dumba + $6.5 Fiala (potentially) = $9.5 added
$2M Holl + $6.9 Nylander = $8.9 subtracted.

Fiala deal is just a hypothetical, but that's not too bad of a cap increase.

That's fair, I guess my counter argument would be the breakout season is partially due to the increase in scoring. Felt like everyone was hitting career highs. I suppose it all depends on how the market plays out for guys in similar situations like Jesper Bratt.

The new team has no leverage. He can just hit the market on July 1

I disagree. I doubt he gets offer-sheeted as an RFA. Only bad teams can afford an offer sheet & it'd be too risky for a bad team to give up unprotected 1sts. His only leverage is going to arbitration and taking a one year deal.
