I feel like the Marino price is a bit high if anything, especially if Pens prioritize other forwards.

Price is fair, but this deal doesn’t make sense for Pitt

You probably are missing a prospect in this package. Marino is miles better than Chiarot, yet that's the package being offered. Trade value comparables don't always matter but this is an undercut IMO.

Just looking at options if Petry is traded and we don't sign Letang cause he doesn't really fit our retool/rebuild lol

Deal allows them to keep Letang and Gino's at more reasonable caps (than 5 mil each, which is being reported)

Cap space is no problem whatsoever for Pitt. We have 29 mil. If those reports of the 5X3 contracts are true, it is because new ownership wants to move on, not because we can’t afford them.

I think it’d be a good place to start with the 1st and 3rd. But the problem is I don’t think Pittsburgh will start selling just now. And maybe missing one more piece. I’d have to say a good prospect.

Petry isn’t traded until Letang sign
If he doesn’t than Petry stays
I can’t see us going Romanov-Savard 1st pairing next year

Deadline deals aren't comparable to offseason deals in the sense that values are higher when teams are gearing up for the playoffs.

29.5 Mil doesn't go very far when you have to resign/sign 10 players including 3 top 6 forwards (Malkin, Rust, Rackell or replacements) 1 top pairing D man (Letang or replacement) and a tandem goalie (Jarry or replacement). Assuming each top 6 forward averages about 5 mil and the top pairing D man gets 5 mil that is 20 mil gone + say 2.5 for a 1b goalie and that leaves 7 mil to fill 5 holes. That is pretty tight to the cap.

It's prob the fla 2023 1st, Mysak or Tuch, and a 3rd. It is high but right now marino is projected to have added quite a bit surplus value by the end of his current contract.

Cap space is not an issue, we have 30 mil. And even if you think it is, you are missing the point.

The penguins are not rebuilding, so why would we want these picks in exchange for our second pairing dman. Sure we “open up cap space”, but we would have to use that cap space to go sign a second pairing dman!

I still think you are tight on cap for the quality of players you need to resign/acquire but let's just agree to disagree on that one lol.

Good point here, I was going to include Barron or Mailloux but felt like that was too much going the Pens way and someone suggested Tuch or Mysak so I added Tuch. Maybe we could do Barron + 2023 1st Flo for Marino slightly more value than the 1st + 3rd and provides a cheap 2nd pairing D man
