Did Bryan rust just bring down Miller’s AAV?

Obviously rust signed a team friendly deal, but what if JT did as well?

Rust last three years:
171 GP, 73 goals, 156 points

.42 goals per game, .9 points per game

6 year 5.2 million extension

JT Miller:

202 games played, 74 goals, 217 points

0.36 goals per games, 1.07 points per game.

Since miller plays centre and wing, wears a letter, plays all game situations, and is coming off a 99 point season, he will obviously get a bump over what rust gets.

But how much of a bump?

miller is also a year younger, and on a worse team. I think he'll still get 7+

Nope. GMs can make the argument that Rust was carried by his linemates and they'd probably be somewhat right. Miller is also a center which makes a huge difference and has put up much better point totals. Rust has also had injury problems which decreases his value.

Miller will be the same age next year when his contract expires that Bryan rust is now. They are ectuslly very comparable in terms of age and “late bloomers” only difference is JT hit a level this year that Rust has never hit

I’d guess Miller gets 8x8, Miller is a center and has more assists, Rust is a wing and took a team friendly deal to stay in Pittsburgh.

I agree miller being a centre adds AAV. So does his leadership role (wears an “A”), plus his PK responsibilities and he lead the team in scoring.

However, their pure point totals aren’t too far off, and Rust actually score more goals. I think adding 2.5-3 million to rusts deal compensates miller for his added responsibilities and higher skill.

That would still put him somewhere between 7.75-8.25 on a 6 year deal, which is less than what many have been speculating

Miller and Rust aren't comparables, Rust best season is 58 points where Miller just put up 99 points. Miller is worth 7+ million rather easily.

Yes I agree. But I think rust is only 1 tier down

Imo 7.85, which is what I did in the AGM, makes sense

Rust also plays pk and pp so I mean that isn’t a different responsibility for Miller. But Miller still gets more. Rust definitely took a team friendly deal.

Yeah i think 7.85m x 6-7 years is a fair offer for J. T. Miller on his next contract. Doubt he'll get Zibanejad money.

Depending on how he does this coming season I would be surprised if his cap hit started with a 9.

What does being on a worse team have to do with anything?

Fiala got 7.875M against the cap, you think Miller gets the same?

I think so. Point per game 25 year old vs point per game 30 year old

Well, Miller is older, outproduced Fiala this past-season, and is a more complete player. Although I do expect both players to score at closer to the same rates going forward, maybe Fiala could even drop down to being a 60-65 point player in a new system, it's possible

Roughly 50 million in total money, AAV will be dependent on the amount of term
