Wouldn’t mind this deal. Would even go Smith if they preferred over one of the forwards

No. You'd be getting, with extension, a proven top-line near-PPG 40 goal guy, who is only entering his prime. A Laine trade would likely be something like the 1st and Holtz, possibly more. Even then, unless CBJ are absolutely blown away with the guys who would be available at #2, who wouldn't be there at #6, I'd feel they may ask for a 2023 1st instead.

Reuniting the Boqvist brothers is a fun story, but we really have no need form more B6 wingers. Zacha is a guy who hasn't shown enough consistency for me to comfortably sign him to the long-term extension he is about due.

Every indication is Laine is staying. He and the team have both said they want to make it happen.

Devils should steer clear of Laine.
Cost is gonna be exorbitant and Devils are already strongest at forward.
Rather just draft any of Slaf, Nemec, Jiricek or Cooley at #2.

CBJ ask would be minimum a good player, high prospect and a 1st. Add a high prospect to this offer and it might pass in value. I don't see the CBJ not re-signing Laine though.

Probably value wise but for Columbus there is no reason to do this. Taking a step backwards. Trading away an elite shooting threat/1st line lock for over half the league for a prospect that may take a couple of years till they're 1st line ready. That's what you do at the beginning of a rebuild, not the very end of it when you have a team that's looking like they'll fight for a wildcard spot
